World Cup 2002. Fernado Hierro is pulling the jersey off Niall Quinn in the box. Penalty to Ireland.

The jersey pulling is excessive in Lewandowski's case. The ref will rarely give a penalty for a little tugging or jostling by the defender.

i just did.

If a player is pulling the jersey of the opposition player and pulls him to the ground in full view of the ref then a penalty will be awarded most of the time. Penalties have been given for a lot less.

On the other hand, if there is minor tugging and pulling in the box then most referees will let it pass and rightly so. In those cases the referee usually warns the players to cut it out.

Also, the referee had warned the other Polish defender(Zewlakow is think?) about dragging and pulling in the box just before the free-kick was taken. That makes Lewandowski look even more stupid. He is a big guy up against a smaller player. He can use other methods to keep the player out even though the Austrian was nowhere near making the ball anyway.

I am baffled that people are even arguing against this being a penalty tbh.

so i hope that answers your question

Poland should have finished them off easily and they didn't, and they only have themselves to blame for it.
A window of opportunity was given to Austria (I feel he kinda over-dramaticized it) and a 38yr old scored a penal that was impossible to stop.

This always happens to Poland, I really don't understand it. They can be put in the hardest qualifying group, make it out of there.. then you put them in the weakest WC or Euro group, and they don't impress. It's a shame though, I like Poland as a side.

Oh, and just by the way: He wasnt pulling him down at all. Are you blind? The bastard fell to his knees more by himself than anything else.
Yeah, also just a minute before this the blonde Austrian literally pushed our defender (before the free kick was even taken) and it was alright.

But to be fair there were much more bad decisions in this game, as well as other games.

I like Croatia this year. I'm also really amazed by the Dutch. They kick ass. Beautiful game.
I'd like the Netherlands, Croatia or Germany to win this year.

^^just before, Zewlakow and the blonde Austrian(dont know his name) were both warned by the referee for pushing and dragging. It wasnt just the Austrian that was at it either.

I'm more ashamed that Bosnia didn't qualify every time I see Greece play... What are they doing...

It's a shame for their fans, they are definitly one of the sickest in Europe.

- Italy was poor against Romania. Yes, Toni is strong in the air but they put Goian next to him and that pretty much ruined the party. He was ruled offside when he was onside a few times, though. Didn't have a poor game, but obviously not a world class level (go suck balls, Bachi). Italy's play was too transparant. They bring the ball out from midfield and play to a static striker. All good and well when it works, but this time it didn't work and they couldn't find better options. Romania was good, defended well, countered well, should've made the penal and win. Stupid Mutu, though his first goal finish was out of this world. Prime example of the concept of individual quality (like Ibra's goal vs. Greece).
They call it self destruction for Dutch's side for this tourny. Meaning somewhere down the line they'll fuck up. I'm just waiting for the moment to come and then we will see who will suck balls, nerdo.

I am disappointed for Poland. I like their side as well.

Hope Austria fucks up Germanys side and somehow pulls of the win.

Yes, quality assesment of my Italy analysis there, communist. :thumb:

Did your blue spaghettio's disappoint up to now, poor thing?

Hell, even if we fly out in the quarter finals against fucking Sweden, everyone will remember the beatdown we gave the italians and french.

What's that I smell? 7 goals in 2 matches against the former two World Cup finalists?

Oh, look...its the big cloud of justifiable smugness. :)

Netherlands played well. They played good football. I really can't say anything against them. I do hope however that they'll win against Romania and not just put their backup players because they are guaranteed a spot in the quarters. Cause THAT would piss me off.

Now all Italy has to do is win against France and Netherlands at least tie with Romania and I'll be a happy camper.

Anyway what builds me up it that 1/4 of German team is Polish inculidng 100% Polish Lucas Podolski who is my favorite player of Euro 2008. Funny thing is that Polish team refused to let him play for us. Polish football is a bitch.
Yeah, that is why I am going for Germany.

I always thought Podolski didnt want to play for Poland, the weaker side, but you're saying Poland didnt let him play? Why? Can you explain?

He was recommended to the Polish FA, but kinda like most of our Eastern European FAs..... The FA felt that you guys have 'a dozen Podolskis' and Lucas was not really worth it.

Thats from what I know.

How do I block/ignore bachi's posts again?
Stop being attention whore. You know how to do that. Don't ask questions for no reason wanker.

You should go for the whole thing, not up to quarter finals. Be optimistic for Dutch.

And believe me, you guys played well and beat the two top level teams but those two wins will be gone unnoticed. I wouldnt say nobody will remember but the way you make you seem like, it wont be like everyone will be talking about that especially if they won't win the cup.

He wasnt pulling him down at all. He was grabbing his jersey, thats it.

The whole football world is laughing about this decision. Only 1% thinks it was a penalty and you are part of this group.

On the other hand, if there is minor tugging and pulling in the box then most referees will let it pass and rightly so. In those cases the referee usually warns the players to cut it out.
It was "minor tugging and pulling". Thats why it was a joke to give a penalty.

Im not going to watch the video again but im pretty sure the player was as tall as the polish one.

btw Seb, i dont see you complaining about the clear goal Poland had disallowed in the match against Germany.:D
I honestly cant remember what situation you are talking about?

Loads of people agree that it was a penalty because it was a penalty.Loads of papers and websites even agree.so i dunno where this 1% is coming from. And you are wrong if you think the whole football world is laughing about this decision.I think its simply because Webb is English that there is so much anger towards him. I have read alot of anti-english comments in relation to this incident.

Look, the video clearly shows Lewandowski pulling the player to the ground. The Austrian player is trying to make his run. he is leaning forward, so therefore he is going to fall easier. For fucks sake, the video clearly shows the players jersey being dragged.why are you even arguing this?

I actually think Webb should be applauded for his decision because this kind of pulling and dragging is happening in nearly every game. How many time do we see forwards being held in the box while a corner or free-kick is being taken. There is hardly any goals scored nowadays from corners and free kicks.

We wouldnt even be having this conversation if Lewandowski kept his hands to himself
