Yeah. I think everybody knows civilians die in those attacks. Last month NATO killed 8 or 9 little boys in Afghanistan and all they had to do was say "We're really, really sorry." Like everybody else, I find that disgusting. I don't think it makes NATO a bunch of terrorists though. Killing civilians is not NATO's intention. Dead kids are dead kids, but intent matters.
When NATO kills civlians, it's a failure. When al-Qaeda kills civlians, it's a resounding success. People who equate al-Qaeda with the U.S. are intentionally simplifying the issue.

i was watching a documentary which was following some US unit in Afghanistan and they were attacking some compound. I think it may have been a mortar attack although im not sure if they still use them but anyway during the attack, civilian houses were also hit. A mortar or whatever it was went astray. One mans entire family were killed and they showed the soliders meeting him afterwards, saying sorry to the man for killing his wife and kids and gave a bundle of cash as if to say that the money will make up for the loss of his family. It looked really, really bad imo.

You should all read this. I loved Maureen Dowd before this article, but I think I might wife her now. I feel personally vindicated by it.

What does being head of state have to do with anything? An international criminal is still a criminal head of state or not. Saddam was tried at home BUT as I said OBL can be tried under the Rome Statute.

^^as i said capturing OBL and holding him for trial would have created serious problems.
although im not sure if that would be their only reason for killing him.
i really cant stand it when people talk about his human rights being violated. People that have that view are a real bunch of fairies but i do understand why people are suspicious as to why he wasnt captured. It would have been very interesting to see what came out if he was put on trial.

This article represents a lot of things that are wrong about America - how closed minded (and subject to national propaganda) people are when discussing these issues. I clearly see the difference between reactions of people who are subject to American mass media (or media affiliated with them), Americans per se and other people who read more about the topic. Sadly the first group is dominating, even amongst smart people. Just because that information is the easiest to obtain and is multiplied by a lot of people. Now I'm not talking some tinfoil hat stuff here.
It's funny how Americans will be first to call something "propaganda" without even trying to think about it just because it differs from what they believe and people they know believe, yet they are amongst those that are bombed with it the most. I can understand that it's much harder to think what's right or wrong there but also they rarely think "I might be wrong after all" or at least "what I believe is most probably nowhere as simple as they say " - which is usually the case.
Everyone wants to have an opinion but nobody wants to think about it too much.
Now for the last few days I was digging deeper into the subject and as it is with most topics - majority of people take the most popular opinion making it "more right" for others who do the same, while even dumbing down the issue further. It's natural for humans and applies to almost every subject, but is not good at all. And frustrating for those who want to come up with a more educated opinion.
This is how most discussions about this particular topic look to me:
A-"So he was an asshole, now he's dead, problem solved, let's party, woohoo"
B-"well, it's not that simple, because.."
C-"shut up you idiot. You're trying to spoil the party you Osama fanboy. that A dude is right, let's buy him a beer. Freedom is safe again."
D-"yeah, don't listen to that B dude. I'm expressing my superiority about having the right opinion without thinking about it and giving and/or listening to any arguments too, but in extreme cases I will laugh at arguments that would spoil my theory and come up with new ones that make sense only to people who think like me so we can circlejerk. I'm cool like that"

Masta ive seen a handful of 'conspiracy theories' so im not anti conspiracy theorys but the burden of proof lies on the theorist, just because you want to sensationalize a few aparent consistencies doesnt mean any thing less is propaganda by the country you hate the most. if any thing the most forceful existance of propaganda are these specific conspiracy theories of late

^ American propaganda is based on the "keyword messages". "Freedom, right, war on evil and terror" and that's that, all superlatives that majority of people aren't even questioning. Now I'm not saying that they're not describing a piece of truth from their standpoint but they lack the whole context to really spark a fair opinion, and most people don't really care to have a fair opinion - the most that they'd want is others to think that they have one.
Even Hitler wasn't always wrong too. Now before someone starts a flamewar I'm not saying that American propaganda is as terrible because it hasn't led to something as bad yet but really there are various similarities.
Or Christians with their crusades back in the days - the biggest difference was the topic but mechanisms were similar.
