look at portugal, whenever they're eliminated they always hop on the brasil bandwagon...
That makes no sense. Half the jokes in Portugal are about Brazilians. The Portuguese are even pissed off at the fake Portuguese aka Brazilian that the Brazilians speak lol. I have a Portuguese friend so he rants about Brazil now and then.

That's how it is though. Whenever Portugal gets eliminated they all jump on the Brasilian bandwagon. When Brasil beat Chile here, the Portuguese were running around with their flags.

It's always been that way, well - it's been more intense in recent years

So, how does everyone rank this tournament in comparaison from..say 94 to now.

94 USA (for those that can still remember, or have watched old tapings of the games lol)
98 France
2002 Korea/Japan
2006 Germany
2010 S.A

???

edit: I'm not placing them in that order, just a recap of the last 5 tournies :)
World cup 98 was my favorite. Mainly because I was 10 at that time and absolutely passionate about Football. I rember spending weeks playing world cup 98 which was my first PSX game. Good times.
Then I'd say Korea/Japan would be second. I remember watching these 2 cups and really enjoying them. I also had a lot of fun during the World cup 2006 but didn't really watch most matches. I just had very nice holidays at that time.
I didn't know that there was a World Cup in America. They can't even play well lol.

However my favorite football show was Euro 96. I perfectly remember the semi-finals. Germany-England. An epic match. Two of my favorite teams at that time with almost best squads (imo they had their best ever line-ups in 98-2000). Yeah, great times when Germany had Kahn, Klinsmann, Scholl, Mattheus and a few other legends in their team. I still remember all national-team players from that era lol. Scholl was my favorite football player. He reminded me of Jim Carey.

Say what you want, but the States were impressive in this World Cup. The team with the biggest heart in the whole tournament.

Anyway,

1. 98 France, for obvious reasons, Croatia 3rd. I also enjoyed the first Qualifications for a major tournament by Bosnia. Hearing your National Anthem before a match is so awesome.

2. 94 USA. Huge crowds and that 'Zillian team was awesome. Baggio's miss is one for the ages.

3. 2006 Germany. France came kind of out of nowhere and Zidane was so classy in the Elimination round. His match vs Brazil was one of those that I will never forget. Also, Argentina 6-0 Serbia.

4. 2010 S.A. My country almost qualified, Spain was awesome, Maradona, Germany playing like Brazil, The Netherlands, Vuvuzelas, etc.

5. 2002 Korea/Japan. Was alright. I'll mostly remember if for Ronaldo scoring 8 goals and Rivaldo ruining his career.

What? 98-2000 was the worst time of German football in the past two-three decades...

As a matter of fact when they were eliminated by Croatia in '98's quarterfinals, they decided to completely modernize and change their youth system...

At Euro 2000, they finished last with 1 point in the group stages, two points behind 3rd placed England. They scored only one goal in 3 matches when they drew Romania. Scholl scored that goal btw.

Edit - Iniesta is a diving cunt. And he should be sued for slander for the message on his shirt. And as there are so many spaniards on here, now, then you must have been able to read it.
Eh? I don't get what's wrong with it... It said "Dani, siempre con nosotros" meaning "Dani, (you will )always (be) with us" A reference to the Espanyol capitain who passed away last year because of a heart attack.

I have to say actually 2002 did have some memorbale moments such as Beckhams penalty against Argentina, France losing to Senegal, Turkey reaching the Semi Finals. Germany destroying Saudi Arabia. Looking past the awful referring during South Korea and Japanese matches there were a few good moments.

yea and half the jokes in brasil are about the portuguese loll..
brasilians are mad they came in and raped our women back in the day, the portuguese are mad that we are better, and will always be better at soccer than them...

I'm just saying that I think they're squad was awesome at that time, not that they were as a team. It was full of my favorite players :cheesy: Also, I don't think they're better now than they were back then. I mean, they have younger players, better strategies and play a nice game but still it's not the good old Germany to me lol
