WCW-World Championship Wrestling

#21
I started watching the WWF in 1987 when Hogan was champion. I didn't discover WCW until 1994 when Hogan won the world title from Ric Flair at Bash at The Beach.

What I liked about WCW is that they focus more on wrestling and less soap opera.

WCW suffered alot of problems that sadly ended in March 2001.

1. Kevin Nash becoming the head booker in 1998.

2. David Arquette becoming WCW World Champion.

3. Celebrities becoming Main Eventers. Dennis Rodman, Karl Malone, and Jay Leno.

4. Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero, Dean Malenko and Perry Saturn leaving WCW because of backstage politics.

5. Bringing Vince Russo to WCW was a huge mistake.

6. Bring The Ultimate Warrior to WCW was another mistake. Warrior was one of my favorite wrestlers back in 1989 but he aged and everything about him changed for the worst.

7. Failure to establish new talent.

8. Overkill of the nWo idea. After Austin won the WWE world title in 1998, Raw finally defeated Nitro in the ratings. Bischoff should have realized the WCW/NWO war got old with the fans but instead we have nWo Black and white and nWo Wolfpac.

Then nWo Silver a little while before it finally died off. Thing is, though, when you've got an idea as good and as profitable as the nWo, you just want to keep pushing it. It's easier than coming up with new material. WWE did it to some extent with things like Austin vs. McMahon and DX.

I always preferred WWF. Ever since I saw Summerslam '87 I was a fan.
I agree with you - the period of 87 to 90 imo was the golden years - jesse ventura and gorrilla monsoon were class - ive got a few vhs from that era and once in a while watch them , there arguments were superb and was often more entertaining than the action .

Don't forget Eddie Guerrero's Latino World Order (LWO) lol

WWF was always better than wcw. Better wrestlers and they didnt hold all their young talent down while letting the older guys hog the main events all the time. You got to see austin go from ringmaster to stone cold steve austin the wwf champion (multiple times). You got to see young Rocky Maivia go from rookie to The Rock, multiple time champion and now a movie star. You really didnt get that many pushes from wcw until the late 90's and still at that time u still had wrestlers like hogan, macho man and sting hoggin up the main events. I enjoyed wwf wrestlers more like owen hart, bret hart, hhh (before he started winnin all those titles), austin, mankind/mick foley/dude love, dlo brown, etc... they were better and more entertaining imo. I didnt discover wcw until about 95 or 96 when hogan first went to the nwo i had accidentally found nitro and they were showing clips from the ppv the night before i think it was the american bash when hogan joined nwo and the kids in the crowd where screamin and cryin lol. WCW was good but it wasnt as good as wwf to me i grew up since the early 90's watchin wwf. I still remember watchin the first episode of monday night raw and the early episodes when 123 kid (xpac/sean waltman whatever u wanna call him) pinned razor ramon. lol...and lets not forget the legendary hell in a cell wit undertaker and mankind. I think they developed their storylines n shit better too...cuz when Kane first came they hyped that storyline up pretty good. But now the wwe has went to hell its pretty much garbage now i only watch it every now and then for nostalgia purposes lol jim ross and jerry lawler are still funny as hell to me.

fuckin wwe groupies. wwe was and still is a joke. %90 isnt even wrestling. if you enjoy soap operas that much go watch days of our lives.

typical raw show

someone comes out and talks for half hour about how he got screwed.then he talks how he is the best, blah blah blah. some dude comes in and kicks his ass

they get some fuckin fake women who look like my ass to come out waste another 15 minutes.

they have a match with some jobbers. last about 15 minutes.

they go to the back where one of those fuckin nerds interviews a wrestler while the fans take a nap.this last 15 minutes.

another match with some other ok wrestler. the match most likely ends when someone cheats. also last 15 minutes.

last match is the main event. match will be very slow and boring, except for the last 3 minutes when they pull some kind of stunt. there is never a chapionship change. makes you bite your nails so anxious to see who's gonna end up winning.lmao pathetic

the rest of the time is killed by commercials.

Thats not wrestling. Thats a fuckin soap.

Yep, lol.

Ans I also remember me & my mates used to play games where you had to list what wrestlers had made comebacks under different alias.

Like the 123 Kid, or like Smash from Demolition (Who were great)

if you were a real fan, in my opinion, you would compare the atmoshpere of the live shows...i went to a wcw show...i think it was thunder...it was aight...but then i went to a regular show from the wwe...now that's entertainment....

but alas, i liked the wwe more....even though at one point i liked both equal

wasn't it just classic when you seen shane mcmahon on nitro and vince on raw....

We're not talking about how it is now, we're talking about how it was then. Of course it sucks now, most people won't deny that. That's because they have no competition, so they become stagnant and repetitive. But you want to blame vince's money for wcw's downfall? Well do you think more people watched raw during that time because Vince had more money? No, people were tired of seeing the same old guys hogging up all the main events, knowing that guys like Jericho, Benoit and them were never going to get pushed to the main event level. You want to talk about boring? How about all the lame filler matches they always had on Nitro to try to fill up 3 hours? You know, the ones where everyone in the building was chanting "Boring, boring, boring" throughout the whole match? The simple fact of the matter is this: WCW had money problems because they started putting out a weaker product. The nWo was probably the single best idea in wrestling history, and to put Hogan behind it was nothing but pure genius. But they ran out of ideas pretty quickly after that, and people tuned out. You can blame it on Vince all you want, but WCW killed itself.

PS: On a side note, did you know that Sting was originally going to head nWo? WCW wanted a career face to play the part, and they approached Sting first, but he turned it down. That's when they offered it to Hogan, he accepted, and the rest is history.

And none of these things happened on the typical Nitro? Fuck outta here...

WHat WCW did wrong or should've done was to let the nWo Climax. The nWo thing never reached its goal, before it came crashing. There was no conclusion or proper ending to the nWo because the beginning of the nWo was such a big story and beginning that it deserved a true ending. What they should've done was let the nWo takeover Nitro and let WCW have Thunder. The RAW & SMACKDOWN thing in WWE right now could've been a NITRO & THUNDER innovation. They should've had a roster split or so because their roster was just to large to give people the proper pushes for anyone to stand out.

The thing I liked about WCW was the way wrestlers were recognized by their in ring skills and self promotion. Rey Mysterio became popular in WCW because he was a fantastic wrestler, whereas Cena is now known because of his mic skills. WCW was a wrestling skill company and the only non-main event star that stood out was JERICHO. He'd always take the microphone and talk about his jerichohalics and promote himself anyway he can, other than that they left the talking to the known stars, which is what WWE should do. Who wants to hear Simon Dean or Shelton Benjamin talk.

You can say the same thing about The Hardy Boyz that you said about Rey Mysterio. When WWE were winning the Monday Night War, they were promoting genuine talent like the Hardyz, Edge and Christian, Angle and they pushed the likes of Jericho, Benoit and Guerrero more than WCW ever did.

Everyone has to cut a promo sooner or later.

And Simon Dean is good on the mic. Shelton Benjamin is good enough.

If it wasnt money problems why did vince buy out wcw??? If wcw sucked so bad why would anyone buy it? Just let it die by itself, then all the talent will be at your door in no time. And vince wouldnt of had to pay anything. But it wasnt like that.

Wcw just couldnt support itself finacially, thats why they let a handful of talent go. People were getting paid alot of money in wcw, much more than wwf, thats why they ran out of money. But still thats not an excuse to call it shit just because they fell off financially.

The only reason why wwf was getting better ratings was because of the rock and stone cold. its just like the rap game. you got these commercial rappers, 50 cent and eminem. you got all these kiddies buying their shit, so they are on top. DOesnt mean they are the best. 50 cent is trash and eminem fell off. Yet they still sell the most. Its the same situation with stone cold and the rock. I dont see what so special amount stone colds talent, or the rock's talent. they got all these little gay moves and people love it,so of course they're gonna wanna watch it.i'm glad the late owen hart ended stone cold's career. :p

wwe pushing young talent? well the younf taleng only get the spotlight for a limited time, then the wwe takes it away and eveyrone forgets about them.

here's my reviews on the recent wwe champs

brock lesnar: wtf, he came in all of a sudden he's a machine and he's the champ. he sucked so bad,i cant believe he won the championship so quick. again, gimmick, brock cant wrestle, he has no skills, hes slow. he was champ just to fill more seats

randy orton: RKO my ass. this guy is pathetic. how did they make him champ??? the legend killer. you got this guy, with no skills, beating all these legends. thats wrong and fucked up.

batista: batista is washed up. he cant wrestle. he may be big, but his matches are all boring.and all of a sudden he's champ.guys that bust their asses off,and whos been in the game for so long who didnt win the belt are probably pissed off.its not fair.

chris benoit: now that was a good champion. fuck triple h, benoit needs to have the belt right now. unfortunately, since he doesnt fill as much seats as triple h does, they take the belt away.

JBL: he deserved to be champ long time ago. they had him stuck with farooq for so long he never got a chance to shine. i admit, this move was good making him a champ, but it took them so fuckin long to realize his skills.he should still be champ, fuck john cena.

eddie guerrero: damn why did they take the title away from him. he was the best champion in a minute.

triple h: pathetic title whore. fuck him, move on bitch

id like to see chris jericho champion, but lately jericho seems washed up. anyone else notice??? i heard he's going to quit wrestling soon.
