Just really noticed this thread. I go 4-5 times a week. Depends If I have a football(soccer) game on wednesday, If i do I skip gym for that day.

I do a lot of cardio, went first to get some fitness back, which I have done. I run about 10km on the treadmill before I use the cross trainer for a couple of km's, then the bike for a few more but I don't really like the bike as my upper body is static.

I do a few weights, nothing great so far, usually a light routine before I end the week with a bigger routine.

I have a disability known as lazy fuck. It stops me.

I keep meaning to start running and to hit the weights... But I don't. Maybe when it's sunny here (as it is today) it will help.

I eat healthier, I haven't had any burgers or take-aways for a couple of months, the same with junk food. There was a point when I was at uni last year when my diet consisted of burgers and fries as it was the cheap option :(
edit: Off to the gym right now

I hadn't been for 4 days as the last time I went, my body wasn't responding as much as it normally does. I went today and I felt I was back to where i was before.

i took 3 days off since my work has been giving me mad hours right now.

Starting tomorrow, i think my brother and I are going to work out together for the first time ever. From Monday - Sunday, according to him.

My brother in Law said something that made soo much sense that i never looked at it as before.

"See all these big dudes as big as me? They struggle with 60lbs and i'm doing them like nothing. Look at my muscles and look at theirs. There's are puffy, mines are cut. I do pull ups and use my own body weight to lift since I was in jail. These guys lifting weights all day didn't get big that way and that's why they struggle. They just added weight by lifting so much."

Day 1 - Triceps, Biceps, pull ups, close, wide and regular shoulder width. I usually only did shoulder width so it kind of killed me. I didn't realize how weak i was till today.

That's interesting. I think I kind of knew that instinctively, but he puts it well. I have the same effect going but not the same cause: I've never lifted weights because I believe it will fuck up my jumpshot. I've seen guys get big and start missing their shots all the time. But pushups are my favorite exercise. Them and a brisk walk. :)

Yup. It's just not natural. Like he said it was cool to do it, obviously, he was working out with me, but the way he moves is much cleaner than anyone in the gym, so im gonna do a little more of what he does and mix it up.

I forgot how he put it, but He also said that "You know the army lifts weights and shit, but the Navy Seals use pull ups and shit like that more bc most of their missions require for them to do their own weight, but if u look at the army dudes and them, they are all just the same."

how do u do ur push ups Ristol?

I think some athletes get big toward the end of their years bc they know they are getting slower, n they try to improve but it fux them up.

anyway,

Day 2 - Leg Press, 310 lbs, Leg Curls 180lbs, and calvs 85lbs on a calv machine, ran 2 miles.

Day 3 (Today) - Regular Bench and Upper Bench, Dumbell flys (i think that's what it's called) and ran a mile.

Ristol, saying you don't want to lift weights because it might mess up your jumpshot makes Brian Scalibrine even laugh. Kobe nor MJ never lifted a weight in their life. That sounds believable right? Exactly.

You can get cut, you can get puffy, you can get big, you can get lean, you do whatever you want to do to your body with exercise. It's finding the right combination of exercise for your own personal goals, then mixing it up so you don't plateau that will be the most effective. There is so damn much to exercising and the body in general that you can take what you're doing and always add something new so do some research. 90% of the people you see in the gym go by hearsay and what is the norm. Don't just go to the gym to lift weight without educating yourself first. Know what you want, know how to achieve it then take your steps towards achieving it. I can damn near promise you it isn't going to come from just bodyweight, or free weights, or machines, or cardio, or yoga, or stretching, it will come from a combination of it all.

Also, judging someone on how much they can lift by how big they look is the dumbest thing you can possibly do. Unless you're taking body fat measurements you have no idea how much muscle someone has. If someone looks like they have "puffy" muscles it's because they have fat covering their muscles up not because they did a different exercise than the guy who doesn't have as much body fat. You basically said this already Shadows. You have your cousin who has cut muscles and some guy who is his same size with "puffy" muscles. Well the puffy muscle guy doesn't have as much muscle as your cousin, obviously. Puffy guy has muscle + plus fat to get his size whereas your cousin just has the muscle. So it's no secret as to why the puffy muscle guy struggles with 60lb whatever exercise and your cousin doesn't, he doesn't have as much muscle mass as your cousin.

Shadows. I assume you did your "Day 2" for your legs right? I don't care much about the weight but come on with those exercises. You realize you could have skipped all three of those and gone straight to the squat to do everything plus a lot more than those weak ass exercises did for you. You want good strength in your legs and core stop bullshitting with those useless workouts. Squats, deadlifts, overhead squats, full clean, full snatch and other olympic lifts, lunges, plyo, bounds, jump ups, jump rope etc. and the king of em all, the one legged squat, and the accompanying exercises you do just to work your up to a one legged squat like the bavarian split squat or side lunges and that type of shit. And I know I'm missing some great exercises to do. You have to remember there are so much more to your legs then the calves and the front of the thigh the quads, the "show" muscles people typically work on... Abductors, adductors, hip flexors, glutes, hamstrings, the other muscles you have to think about.

Reading some of your posts in this thread makes me think that you do a lot of isolation exercise and that's not the best. Try some full body lifts, I know Rukas will agree with me on that. You said you felt weak cus you changed your grip up on pull ups, just wait til you try your first overheard squat or something similar. It's obvious you have an interest in working out and I'm sure you've done some research but I would think you need to do a lot more. You seem motivated though so that's always good.
