Report: Apple Prepping 4.8-Inch 'iPhone Math'

So rumours are saying that Apple will release 3 new iPhones in 2013.

If this is true then they could snatch some market share back...

However, I would like to highlight that if this turns out to be true then they will also probably have a higher amount of fragmentation and have one flagship device. They will probably try to emulate what the Nexus is to Android with the iPhone 5S being the flagship.
Also, if this proves to be true they are now starting to go for much bigger screens - it doesn't seem that long ago that they promised to stick with 3.5" screens. It's a clear sign that the 'iPhone math' is going after the Samsung Galaxy Note (Direct competition towards their main competitor).

Having said that about fragmentation, Apple do have one thing in their favour when it comes to this. It is their brand of phone and their OS, so if they wanted to they could release the latest version of iOS to every device at the same time. This is where Google and OEMs will still need to improve.

IF true. This is their downfall. They aren't evolving or being dynamic, they are moving in a different direction to Job's vision and it reeks of desperation. It will be their downfall... But... I don't believe it..!

Yeah, Apple rarely "followed" the market, now without Jobs they're 100% doing so. Look at the Ipad Mini and those rumors about cheaper Iphones. To succeed they should come up with something new that people would want.

On a side note, I wonder what their new Ipad will change. It'll be out in March, lol. Ipad 4 was released like.. a couple of months ago and changed the connector and chipset only and people still aren't really aware of its existence and the difference between 3(or the 'new" Ipad) and 4 (which doesn't have an official name). That's crazy how one man can change the whole game. They lost a lot of their "ignorant asshole douchebag" image but also their marketing skills and knack for making truly "Applish" products.

I mean, with Jobs they were playing the "douchebag game". They would release one product and were like "you want what? bigger screen? we don't give a shit, because our phone is awesome, now pay 9999$",. Now they're becoming the casual, needy OEM "ooh we heard you want a slightly bigger screen, we will deliver, just buy it!".

They lost two higher-ups as well. Now sure if Tim Cook is what the company needs. It was better under Jobs' authoritarian rule.

I don't get why the fucker refused treatment for his cancer because of his beliefs. He could have been around a bit longer if it weren't for that. Fucking coonshit. The iPhone has not changed since the iPhone 4. Even Siri was a software upgrade that any schmuck could get on a jailbroken iPhone if they wanted to. And the 5 was just a joke, despite people flocking to it like morons.

If Apple starts catering to the customer/market, as weird as it sounds, they will flat on their faces. People will still buy their shit for another generation or two, but after that, demand will wane. It happens to every company. I guess Apple's time is done. Especially since the post-PC is among us or almost among us, depending on your views. With the iPad losing tablet sales to competitors, Apple has run out of products to push.

I wonder if this pressure will force them create a new niche in computing. But without someone as influential as Jobs backing it, I wonder if they can force it on consumers like they have in the past. Making them them think they want it and derving demand for it that way.

To be fair the 4S changed a lot under the hood. The chipset performance jump was the biggest they ever made in a phone and the camera quality jump was super-big and it made Iphone's camera more than competitive - for the first time on an Iphone (I still remember how ridiculously shitty Iphone cameras were before the 4S). This made the 4S a very complete device (not counting software limitations and small screen).
Iphone 5 is a stupid upgrade though. It's ridiculously longer (the screen is still small), the camera is basically the same and performance and battery life are not visibly better. The main reason people upgraded was.. because of the aluminum back and because it's new.

I think it was to be able to write in their specs that they have a 4 inch screen now without making the display area and device size much bigger.

I remember we used to scoff at larger screens. We used to thin 4" was more than enough and we couldn't get bigger than that without it being obnoxious. Yet here we stand with the GS3 and HTC One X, and the GS4 rumored to be 5". What about the success of the Galaxy Notes? Ridiculous. I wonder if Apple will change it up after seeing the success the Notes have had.

I still think it's funny when Apple said anything bigger than 3.5" is too big for your hand and thumbs and came out with the schematics and video about it and here we are with them having a 4" screen and rumored to get even bigger.

With taht being said I'm not a fan of huge screens like the Note II for example. I think the Nexus 4 is the biggest I'd want to go even though it seems the 5" 1080p screen is what's gonna be the go to for future phones.

I used to say that 4,2-4,3 is perfect but after using my Nexus 7 I changed my mind. It's so much easier to type on a bigger screen, and content looks so much better on a bigger screen. I think screen size is a matter of perspective though - coming from a significantly smaller screen 4,2 seemed big to me. Now it looks kind of small because of my tablet and so many Galaxy Notes around, which are pretty freaking cool if your pocket can fit one.

I think 1080P on those 5 inch screens is kind of weird though. I mean, now it's fairly cheap to manufacture and people are willing to pay a lot for smartphones so price no longer is an argument against it and higher pixel density looks cooler but.. recording a 720P (which is HIGH DEFINITION) video is not enough to fill a freaking 5 inch screen now. Modern consoles mostly don't even run 1080P games, they are 720p or 1080i. Same for HD tv. Now all flagship phones will have 1080P on those 'little' 5 inch displays. Crazy.
Take a highest res picture with a DSLR camera and be able to zoom it on your phone only by a little bit without losing much of its quality. I'm not saying that 1080P on phones is bad, but it's going to be a little weird now.

So what does everyone think of this iWatch that Apple will be coming out with.

They briefly mentioned it on Bloomberg West; the iPhone 5S, and also the bigger iPhone and the iPhone mini that will try to snatch some market share back and cater towards different groups.

P.S. The $1 billion settlement between Apple and Samsung has been reduced by $450 million. :D I still don't think Apple deserve to be awarded that much.

This has really annoyed the shit out of me. I had thought that Nokia is a good company that suffers from really ridiculously terrible management (at least higher management, their projects are often amazing, like Pureview or some designs).

Now, however, it's a sinking company that signed the deal with the devil. Actually they are trying to surivive by holding onto the absolutely worst bitch moves. First becoming Microsoft's bitch and now they are that little stupid snitching kid for Apple. It's not really snitching in good will. It's snitching to make life harder for the company making the best phones at this moment, the company that is certainly the one doing things right now, unlike Nokia, Microsoft or Apple without Jobs.
I'm not going to remember them as a good company now. It's not the same Nokia anymore.

Time are tough. Companies are at each other's throats. Samsung pulling support from Apple for chipsets, then eyeing Sharp and Apple's partnership. Then Samsung potentially using Android to get big, only to dump Android and put their own OS in front. Nokia and HP sucking M$ dick, hoping it'll keep them alive with Windows 8, lest they finally go under without a sound. What about Google taking up Motorola Mobile, and then laying off the workers continuously? That has to suck. Sure, it may have been for patents, but now Motorola just doesn't seem like the Motorola that brought Android to the masses in the US.

Hi, Google have decided to end one of their useful services yet again because it wasn't generating enough advertising revenue!
I have some good news boys and girls, after using Google Reader for 3 days, I have migrated over to Vienna. I'm always wondering when I'm going to get my next fix of web feed, and Vienna is my dealer. Thanks Google!

I just started getting used to using Feedly on my phone. I wonder if the OSX app Reeder will still work. I don't know if it migrates feeds or not.

i read about that just now.

Samsung is pissed about it releasing s4 and it's gonna be outdated in one month. smh so they are making their own ios.

to stay true to the topic (kinda), it seems like a bunch of android and apple users always switch back and forth every 2 years. indecisive ppl.

I'm hearing iOS 7 is due for a massive UI overhaul and because of this, will be delayed. We'll see what Apple's definition of "massive overhaul" is and can only hope.

Similarly, their iPad lineup is rumored to also go through a design change this July when the next iteration of the iPad is due to hit. So it looks like Apple was really resting on its laurels and now a kick in the ass from the competition has them rethinking their whole approach.
