@ARon & SOFI:

what ROM version have you flashed? if you're running test-1 (the first experimental 5.0.7 (android 2.1) ROM, turning the bluetooth facility on helps preserve battery life. otherwise, you can update to test-2 or test-3. however casey said he had a major problem with test-2.

note: there are also test-4 and test-5 for the dream.

here, check the release notes for each version:

good timing because my exams finish soon and i should get to watch the repeat.

are you running test-5 casey? any problems encountered with that?

on test-1 i have trouble using the gallery with force closes, and i cant even set contact pictures for people not on facebook.

any word on the official 2.1 facebook for android update?

Yeah, I'm running test5, it's much smoother, which I guess is thanks to it using the latest kernel. No probs so far.

RE: facebook, no idea right now.

/\ seriously, flash test5. it'll take 10 minutes. I was on test3 and I just went ahead and flashed test5 right on top, i didn't even bother making a backup. The new kernel makes a big difference.

I don't even know where to start with talking about all the new things Google announced today for Android. Fuckkkkkk this shit is dope.

FroYo:
Full Flash
Integrated Tethering
New Android Market with automatic app updates!
New Android Market website with OTA app and music downloading straight to your phone, no cables required (SUCK IT, iTUNES)
JIT compiler makes FroYo the fastest version of Android yet, by a MILE.
Application data backup - you can now back up all of your application DATA to Google's servers....so if you switch to a new phone, not only will you have all your apps but all the data contained within too.
Cloud-to-messaging API - this is SICK. The guy demoed looking up directions on his computer with Google Maps...he clicked ONE button (a chrome extension in his browser) and the Navigation app opened on his phone, navigating him to the chosen destination.
Built in portable hotspot for up to 8 devices
Browser is 3x-4x faster in FroYo compared to Eclair. The new browser can also handle using hardware like the accelerometer, camera, voice search, etc.
Apps to SD! Froyo supports running apps from your sdcard, finally.
New software that natively supports streaming your music library from your computer straight onto your android music library.

As for Google TV - that deserves it's own thread......it's just THAT awesome.

I flashed my Spica, installed a nice mod with 3d gallery and such and a brand new JiT mod which makes all apps work twice as fast! 6Mflops yo! :D

i cant wait for a 2.2 mod to make its way to the G1 to keep me going nicely... i dont think i want to sell this G1 when i get a new phone, but the lack of internet access on it will make many apps useless :(

unless, i could sell it for more than the (second hand) value price because its one of those that have android 2.1/2.2 on it.

We tested the Samsung I9000 Galaxy S and it tested us in return. It bared its teeth at us and so did we. Ours was a grin. Easy boy, good beast. There goes the new leader of the Android pack. The Samsung I9000 Galaxy S has oomph to spare and even hardened geeks like us cannot help but acknowledge its compelling power.

Not only does the Galaxy have a performance edge over its competitors, it's probably better too in terms of usability thanks to TouchWiz. And the majestic Super AMOLED display is a great reason on its own to buy the Galaxy. Be warned though, you're unlikely to ever go back to TFT again. Meaning that at this point, the question to ask yourself is whether you're ready for a long-term affair with Samsung.

If you are looking for the ultimate Android device, there are very few things really to make you consider another handset.
So, while Samsung I9000 Galaxy S is coming to the market a bit late it hasn't been wasting its time. It certainly is the best Android package we've seen so far - a hearty Samsung welcome to all upgraders. We're not sure about Android newcomers, but anyone looking for the ultimate performance has almost no alternatives but the Galaxy S.
