Conservatives are going to suck up to Canada big time until the next election so they can try and take the majority next election.

If it was up to Harper we'd all be in Irag and Afganistan. If he ever gets a majority, a military draft isn't far out of the picture.

we're already in Afghanistan, and there would never be a draft because there would be no reason for it. Come on people, Harper is right wing, but hes not SUPER right wing

Yeah, i think some of you are blowing this a bit out of proportion here. Is Harper bad for the country? Yeah. Is he gonna put a draft in or anything like that? No. Especially not with a minority government. If they ever get a majority government, then you can start sweating, butfor now I think we'll be ok.

Now that i think of it, this Conservative goverment could be a good thing. Power has been taken away from the Bloc and the seperatists, they don't have the "Gomery" ammo to use for their agenda, and the prairie provinces may feel more important in Canada.

yea a guy who's gonna pump 5 billion dollars into the army

create mandatory minimum sentences

ridiculous gun laws

who knows what hes gonna do with abortion

and probably won't recognize the hamas government despite canada's huge palestinian population

and has 27 billion dollars unacounted for in his campaign portfolio is just great

4 billion was already going into the army by the liberals, the army would have won either way

Mandatory senteces are a PLUS. I don't want criminals that use guns go to jail for a few months and get out and do another crime.

Abortion won't go anywhere, minority goverment would stop it

Hamas is a terrorist organization to Canada, even the Liberals wouldn't have reconized them.

The goverment has a LOT more money than what they say, we're fucking rich. We won't be in debt if we're in a minority goverment because the Liberals will do anything to not let us go back there.

Mandatory sentences CAN be a plus but there are different circumstances in every case. If you are a legal gun owner and someone breaks into your house and attacks you, and you shoot him, you are defending yourself and your property. Does that mean you should get the same sentence as someone who uses a gun to rob or kill someone in a crime? According to the Conservatives you should. There's no doubt the Liberals dropped the ball on cracking down on crime, but mandatory sentences aren't the answer

the Charter says that you can defend yourself if you are in danger, and that means shooting someone and get away with it. If you shoot someone who breaks into your house and they don't attack you you should be put in jail, shoot first and ask questions later is a fucked up and dangerous philosophy that we don't need in society.

Maybe that was a bad example. But all crimes have different circumstances, and to lump them all into one category isn't fair or realistic, and won't work.

you know what min mandatory sentencing does

it packs jails with petty criminals

while the real criminals get smarter and buy and create new technology to avoid jail time, and even if they do get caught, you think a proffesional criminal is gonna spend his time thinking how sorry he is , no hes gonna spend his time thinking how not to get caught next time and how since he got caught this time he should at least do something bigger and go out with a bang if he gets caught again

people who import, export or produce meth, heroine and cocaine are not petty criminals. Mandatory sentences are for those people, we aren't talking about people who break windows and gets 16 years for it, we're talking about people who make money by destroying lives and would normally get 1-2 years in prison, now they'll get a mandatory 2 years plus whatever the judge sentences them for

lol...... youre talking about people who import export major designer drugs... first they dont get caught, second to these people you think locking them up will cease operations, you think locking up a drug lord who imports exports designer drugs for 2 years will actually do anything except make their operations more secure, profesional and even MORE impossible to stop

A drug lord would get a lot more than 2 years, especially with harsher penalties that will soon be put in, 2 years is just a minimum. Its a lot better than letting people just go out and sell shit with very little penalty, what would be your solution?
