I dunno. But it captures HD video. Which is a plus.

Not particularly. It's not the best display available but I wouldn't call it subpar.

I doubt it'll replace the keyboard for me, but I'll still give it a try.
 
G2 finally has a permanent root.

Not much else was released on the PSP Phone, or whatever it's called.
 
Android smartphone market share up a staggering 22%, Symbian down 8% in Q3 2010 | BGR

Market research firm Gartner released its Q3 2010 cell phone numbers on Wednesday and, to put it mildly, it’s an exciting time in the mobile space. Overall cell phone sales across the globe grew 35% compared to Q3 2009, and smartphone sales exploded — almost doubling numbers from the same quarter last year. Gartner’s report shows total smartphone sales of over 81 million units worldwide, which accounts for 19.3 percent of global cell phone sales in the quarter.

The shining star this quarter was Google’s Android operating system, which saw unbelievable growth compared to last year. Approximately 20.5 million Android devices were sold in the third quarter of 2010, accounting for 22.5% of the global smartphone market. In the same quarter last year, less than 1.5 million Android phones were sold, making up about 3.5% of the market. The increase in Android phone sales amounts to a staggering 1,440% swing, year over year. If there was any question that Android is well on its way to becoming the most popular smartphone OS in the world, the answer now seems fairly apparent.

On the flip side of the coin, Gartner’s numbers are rather unsettling for the world’s top cell phone manufacturer, Nokia. Gartner states that the Finnish giant lost 8.5% of the global cell phone market year over year, while Symbian, Nokia’s smartphone OS of choice, lost 8% of the market. Symbian smartphone sales were up almost 10 million units over the period, but the market is growing at a far more rapid pace. The figures also show iOS losing 0.4% of the smartphone market compared to Q3 2009, though sales nearly doubled from 7 million to 13.5 million units; and RIM lost 5.9% of the market, though sales climbed from 8.5 million units in Q3 2009 to 12 million units in Q3 2010. Microsoft’s old Windows Mobile platform — which is basically dead in the water at this point, having been replaced by Windows Phone 7 — crashed from 7.9% of the market in Q3 2009 to 2.8% of the market in Q3 2010.

Still can't believe phones like this and the X10 are only now getting 2.1, when 2.2 has been out for months and 2.3 is about to hit.

Rumor has it that Nexus One's might even get 2.3 within the next week. And that, kids, it's why it's important to get "Google Experience" devices if you're truly an Android fan.
 
Not like it's a problem if you're rooted. As soon as the source gets released people will build custom ROMs.

But I would bet on it being at least a month after that, before HTC (or anyone else) pushes any updates to any of their high-end devices. And for their mid and low ends it may be a lot longer. HTC Legend, for example, is only just getting 2.2 right now. And that's a device that is still available for purchase in many areas. Same with Galaxy S - and that's a high end device.

I find the timing very strange, that devices are receiving official 2.2 updates just a week ahead of the rumored 2.3 unveiling. FroYo was announced back in May and open sourced not long after. The hardware manufacturers really need to work on that. Of course, I have no idea how many development hours it takes HTC/Motorola/Samsung etc to integrate the latest version of Android with their respective UI's after they have the code. But they really need to speed that up.

Sony are the most ridiculous. Their high-end flagship - the X10 - is only just getting 2.1.

Missed the point spectacularly. Even Experience devices have a shelf life. That much should be obvious to anyone that isn't a total idiot.

Or were you expecting the Nexus One to get Walnut Cake/Vanilla Pie/Yoghurt/Zucchini Muffin when those get developed in 7 years time?

I'm still waiting for a stable CM6 Rom on my galaxy. I think I may have a new phone by the time they release it.

Are there any other decent roms out there? Modaco Roms any good?
