Wayne Rooney’s marriage was under intense pressure last night after it was revealed that he had a series of encounters with a prostitute while his wife was pregnant.

The Manchester United and England star, widely criticised during the World Cup for a series of lacklustre performances, broke the news to a 'devastated' Coleen yesterday afternoon.

They married two years ago, after six years of dating, becoming one of football’s highest-profile couples.

But last night there were fears that their union is unlikely to survive the new revelations.

Jennifer Thompson, 21, who charges £1,200 a night, claims she slept with 24-year-old Rooney, seven times in four months.

She says they had sex in one of Manchester’s most exclusive hotels, and visited nightclubs and casinos together.

And she further claims that Rooney even invited her back to the £4.5m home he shares with Coleen for sex while his wife was away.

It is understood his lawyers tried to fight the allegations when they first surfaced three weeks ago, but ultimately decided they were indefensible because of previous revelations about the star and prostitutes.

In 2004 it was reported that he had visited brothels in Liverpool as a 16-year-old and admitted to paying for sex with a 48-year-old grandmother.

It's easier. There's no emotion, it's just sex. Plus you can call up without having to make excuses or pretend a date is involved. It's not like money is an issue. 2k a night is pennies.

i dont understand why footballers get married young in the first place. take Beckham for example. that guy can fuck a different hot women from a different country each day if he wants but he goes and marries skinny posh spice. all well and good if he stays faithful to her but he hasnt.

A lot of them marry young before they make it to be a huge success, I'm guessing because it shows that they're with the guy for him, and not for the cash. I know in Croatia a lot of the players get married to locals before they make it big. Kranjcar for example was with his gf for a long time (while he was still playing in Croatia) before he married her, same as Modric - recently got married, but was with his gf before he even made a big move.

So, I think that's the mentality, if you can get that gal that sticks with you before you hit that level of fame - you know she's more likely to be with you for who you are, instead of for what you do on the field. At least, I see it that way...

i just dont rate him that highly. i never saw what the fuss was about. done nothing at Real Madrid really. you cant say he wasnt given chances either because he started his fair share of games especially at that start. he is a nice footballer. no doubt about that but similar to Joe Cole and would probably want to play in the same position. i know Duke likes him but while i rate other dutch players like Robben and Sneijder very highly, i never saw what the fuss with VDV was all about.

maybe ill be proven wrong here.

and im also annoyed that a player would snub Liverpool to join Spurs.

where are Spurs gonna play all these attacking midfielders anyway? they have Modric, Jenas, Bentley, Dos Santos and Krancjar and they play with two up front.

Besides that, I'll stand by the fact that VDV is one the best no.10's in the world as long as you play him on 10 and make him the man.
