Can you think of a foreign company that tried to do business in your home country and had issues?

For example:

1. Wal-Mart failing in Germany and closing up shop.

2. Starbucks having trouble entering Russia's market until 2007.

^I don't see Netto having trouble, though. It appears they've been successful at internationalization.

what's netto?

and no i don't know any foreign companies that had issues integrating themselves here

starbucks in AU. i think something like 70% of their stores closed down or are closing down. those are not exact figures though.

Supposedly there used be to be at least a handful of Taco Bell's in the UK, over a decade ago. That's what I've heard anyway.

I've never personally seen one here. I wish there were some here though, this country has no idea about mexican food.

Apparently you have no idea wat mexican food is if you consider taco hell real mexican food. That shit is NOT mexican food and not one item on their menu is real mexican food. When you come to Cali homie i'll take you to some real mexican food spots.

lmao there's a funny thing about starbucks here. They opened up like 3 or 4 places in expensive places and FAILED. They monopolized the world but here we have a major brand that is similar to starbucks but much better, cheaper and Polish. They couldn't buy them out and tried hard with all kinds of discounts but still they are not considered to be any competition.

Also Apple doesn't sell well. I have NEVER seen a single person in an ispot. I guess they get their earnings from bigger companies though.

I'm sure there are also a few others I can't think of right now, but I recall that there were some major failures.

edit: Oh, yeah. Burger King and Taco Bell. The only international fast food restaurants that haven't failed are McDonalds and KFC. They opened a few Burger Kings this year but I'm not sure how long will they last.

Poland is a strange place because we have mostly domestic companies. The problem is that they all get sold abroad. So we have 100% Polish brands that earn money for some foreign fuckers.

Never seen any US business fail here. WalMart is Branded as Asda in the UK, and they are the UKs second biggest supermarket. We have 3 Subways that all do well in my City. Starbucks is all ways busy.

I know it isn't. I was just trying to find something to label it as.

I always thought if Taco bell opened in the UK for as cheap as it is here they would do really well... specially with the 1am drunken crowd.. Now is the right for them to come.. back when they were around no-one really knew about them..

Anyway, there used to be some good mexican places in North London.. Chiquito comes to mind but it closed down and turned into a Krispy Creme!.. an f'ing disgrace

Yeah, I've always thought the same thing.

If they do open up here again, they will do amazingly well. I think people in the UK are sick of your standard McDonalds/KFC/Burger King shit now. The lack of choice for fast food in this country is bewildering compared to America where you've got 50 million different companies all fighting over the same space.

I don't necessarily advocate more fast food consumption in this country, but it seems like there should be more choice. I'm surprised places like Wendys, Jack in the box and Arbys haven't looked at expanding into the UK market.

I think the UK/US mindset is the main reason there are not more fast food places. When that Krispy Kreme opened people made such a fuss over it, even the papers were saying we were all gonna get fat from the influx of american fast food businesses opening.
What Ive noticed is the quality of KFC, Mcdonalds etc in the UK is WAY better than here.. its fresher and tastier, where here it tasted over processed.. if a Wendys or whoever opened I think they would face more opposition than support..

Places like Quiznoes have done well cos people dont percieve them as unhealthy.. (even though they heat their chicken by dipping it in hot slimy water!)

They have, many times. They have all failed.

Well, not Jack in the Box. But I mean, Jack in the Box hasn't even expanded nationally. Nobody knows about it on the East Coast because they don't have any.

Tim Hortons' makes the greatest coffee known to man.

Donuts too. God I love Tim Hortons. Can't wait till we tour Canada again in February (confirmed dates in Vancouver and Toronto, what you know about that!!!?!)
