The statement said: "Benefiting from early detection through a doctor-ordered MRI, the cancer is not life threatening. Christina is following the recommended treatment of her doctors and will have a full recovery. No further statement will be issued at this time."
Applegate is currently starring in 'Samantha Who?', a US sitcom which is produced and created by Irish author Cecelia Ahern.
Playing the lead role in the show, Applegate stars as a woman who wakes from a coma with no memory of who she is. She has been nominated for an Emmy and a Golden Globe for the show.
She first rose to fame in 1987 as ditzy teenager Kelly Bundy on 'Married with Children', which ran for 11 seasons.
In 2003 she won an Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for her role as one of Jennifer Aniston's younger sisters in 'Friends'. She was nominated for a Tony in 2005 for the Broadway musical 'Sweet Charity'.
Her film roles include 'Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead', 'Wild Bill', 'Wonderland' and 'Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy'.
Applegate is scheduled to appear on a one-hour US television special, 'Stand up to Cancer', on 5 September to raise funds for cancer research.
