This is far from the truth. American building are built strong enough to last until they decide to blow the shit to a rubble. That's the American way.

The drive thru roofs being "open" and lacking a few pillars isn't the problem. Like Salty made a point of, it's not reasonable to expect an American to take the right precautions in any dire situation, and so the law is adjusted to that fact by allowing ridiculous law suits.

well, it was clearly stable until some douche decided to slam his mobile home into it. the only natural cause that could destroy those kinds of bank roofs in its lifetime is severe winds.

I think you underestimate the power of cars. If I put my leg between a brick wall and a car traveling at 15 mph it would hurt bad. It could potentially break bones.

The only legit argument the driver would have is if the roof didn't have any height warning signs.
