I've seen Jay use lines from various other rappers but i think he knows people would recognize those lines and therefore know that he isn't biting but rather paying homage.

Yeah, exactly. Plus, it's not like the lines he bites MAKE his songs what they are. Every song that contains something bitten, has a Jay -Z line that's tighter.
