The best site(s) for downloading books?

so there are a few new or newer books that i've been looking for, but i refuse to pay the way overbloated retail prices these days. the prices for books don't even make sense anyway (for example i recently purchased 2 books, one was about 300 pages and the other was about 900 pages, but they were both the same price ). so i am curious if anyone knows the best sites to find new books online? i'm not sure if this is in the right forum or not, but since there is no section for books i thought i'd post here. thanks for any help

I dont know, downloading books just seems crappy to me. I download music and burn it to CD, I download movies and burn them to DVD, what are you going to do with books? Download them and print them? I dont like reading on the screen, I like reading books because it gets me AWAY from the computer or television and I can carry it with me; short of printing it off you cant really do that with downloaded books.

well i don't mind reading off the screen, that doesn't bother me. i mean obviously i'd prefer the book, but like i said prices for books just aren't worth it. $30 for a book i'll read once and probably never again? i don't fuckin think so! plus, there are plenty of different formats for ebooks so that you can upload them to portable devices so you don't HAVE to sit in front of your computer screen.

so no one here can help me?

lol, i am a member of the library, but they don't usually carry the latest books unless they are bestsellers. our libraries here suck

Cant you just get the library to order it in for public use? We can in the UK.
