they may be aus dollars.
Technically you could get a pc like this for half it's price except I'm not sure how they connecter 4 video cards and made them work.
Last week I built 2 pc's for my friends. One based on newest AMD's Phenom and another on Intel Quad Core QX6700 -those beat any other cpu's Mac could use including those 8-16core xeons if it comes to media performance, intel's processor is also much faster if it comes to compressing and stull like that. They simply have much better performance.
second (more expensive) PC had 8gb (can upgrade to 16gig anytime) Geil 1333mhz ddr3 ram so that's nearly 2 times faster than rams used by Mac and a single geforce 8800gtx by EVGA - there's still no use to put 2 of those cards in SLI.
I also found cheap 24' full HD Dell monitors (700-800$).
Friends study in school which provides them with all Microsoft software licences for free so no software was needed.
Less expensive pc (with 8gig of 800mhz ddr2 ram and a single 8800gt) costs around 1500$ while the more expensive around 4200$ + 700-800$ for monitors.
So it's 2200$/5000$.
Both have best Asus motherboards, WD or Samsung dual 500gb drives in Raid so they're 2 times faster and Chieftec/Tagan 620W power to prevent any possible resets and troubles.
yeah I have to agree that there are things that people just prefer to do on Macs. It's just Apple wants much too much for the hardware they give.
It's like buying the same verbatim cd-r's in the market and another ones with apple logo in apple store. You have to pay more than twice as much for the same thing with an apple logo on it.
So what I'm saying is that the hardware they give is not worth that much money, it's barely worth half of what they want for it.
Biggest waste then?
I honestly can't use Macs. They do look clean, neat and whatnot.
Not really.
Two 3.2GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon (8-core)
16GB (8 x 2GB) RAM
300GB 15,000-rpm SAS HHD1
1TB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s HHD2
4 x ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT 256MB
2 x Apple Cinema HD Display (30" flat panel)
Are you planning on running a nuclear plant or something???
Are you planning on running a nuclear plant or something???

for someone that seemingly was tight on money with college loans, etc. you sure spent a grand or so more on something that could easily be had for around 250 and done the job.... but that's just me...![]()
Who me? I only spent $850, didn't take out any student loans really, I owe less than 2,000 and i'm never tight on money, I make damn near 43K a year without my BA.
why would you want 4 gfx cards for audio/video editing?
