We'll leave the other thread for linx and zimbabwe to bicker about grouprips and webrips.

1. What do you guys think of Jigga stealing half an Eminem verse on Success? "I'm not a biter i'm a writer for myself and others, when I say a...Em verse, I'm only biggin up my....erm...white brother?"

2. Who else thinks the introduction is unnecessarily corny and totally ruins the mood of the album?

3. Who else thinks Jigga failed with delivering an album that was supposed to be the rap version of the film? I haven't seen American Gangster but I don't think these tracks do a good job.


Ps. I will never believe a descriptive online article regarding quality of beats and mood of rap songs.
 
The intro isn't needed that much. They should have cut the intro down to about 40 sec. and just added it to the beginning of "pray" (making it one big track).

Dont really care about using Em's lines. He's done it for a lot of rappers including Em, BIG, and Pac, as well as many others probably.

Still a hell of an album though...

As for the album, I like a few songs.
 
are you serious?!?!? Jay Z absolutely murdered every semblance of competition out there. ABSOLUTELY MURDERED!!

Dude listen to what he's saying, how he flows, how every line is different, how he comes up w/a billion and one ways to say the same thing...it's pure fucking genius. Listen to track 13, where he talks about falling from grace, man it's so dope. SO SO DOPE. I can't believe you guys would nitpick at it, because I am just floored by his creativity and talent, and he definitely brings it this album.

So you dont like the album then? :D. To be honest its not great, better than his last one but hardly worth coming out of retirement for to do these last 2 albums to be honest.

This album aint on a level with Reasonable Doubt or Blueprint, even the Black album is better. Not bad tho. better than kingdom come LOL
 
I was very annoyed when Jigga said that the reason Kingdome Come didn't sell so well is because it was "too sophisticated".

LOL.

Even? I dont know if Id use the term even, that suggests the Black Album wasnt that great and in my opinion that was a fantastic CD and his second best album. But even if you think its his third best, using the word even does it a bit of an injustice as that CD will be hard to live up to for anybody.

I was going to say the same, but I have really lost my energy to debate quality of albums lately. It just ends with, "well your opinion is yours, and mine is mine," etc.

I'd say that the Black Album is his best album after the Blueprint. Hell, I'd even say that they could be level with each other. The Black Album is the last hip-hop album that I took the time to, without reading the lyrics online, to memorize the lyrics to almost all the songs. Many would argue Reasonable Doubt is his best album, but I feel that their feelings stem from the idea that a successful debut album of a rapper is better than the albums that follow. Also, it's much cooler to praise an older album than a more recent one.
 
Yeah, perhaps I shouldn't have put it like that. I guess what I was trying to convey was that IMO Reasonable Doubt and The Blueprint are classics, whereas The Black Album, whilst still a great album, falls short of the classic mark.

S O F I - lyrically and production wise, Reasonable Doubt is just not to be fucked with. I mean come on, I like the Black Album but the lyrics never blew me away. It was impressive, but I wasn't as impressed as I was when I first heard "Can't Knock The Hustle", "Dead Presidents II", "D'Evils", "Politics As Usual", "22 Two's"..........that album is stone cold hip-hop classic.

The Black Album had 3 or 4 songs that could have been a lot better.....and "Change Clothes" was a wack choice for a single. Granted, the genius of "99 Problems" alone pushes the album into near classic territory.
 
This album was conceived to be a concept album which would depict the movie through its lyrics. On this mark, this album does not do a good job in my opinion, the only track which does a good job of doing so is fallin. I have seen the movie, the movie is great, didnt like the jay z album though. Like others have said, why come out of retirement to produce an album like this, apart from the extra free marketing opportunity it represented. Theres no development from track to track in my opinion...its just flat in that regard. The intro is a bit corny to me as well. Jay Z has the talent to produce better albums than this, maybe just not the motivation.
 
i got it at home but haven't listened yet.

i watched the movie and i didn't even think the movie itself was all that good. i listened to the snippets of the tracks and imo jigga's flow is starting to get annoying. he's whining too much with his voice and he's dragging out words and it just sounds gay. imo anyway.
 
Beat wise, it doesn't sound bad at all. There are good ones and some not so good ones. I can't comment on all the songs yet though. Ignorant Shit is dope and so is Success. Pray also sounds dope.. same with No Hook.

50 suffers from the same thing... i guess it happens when you're run out of material.. which too is bound to happen.. how many different things can you talk about after 10 albums?
