50 Cent CRUSHES Kanye West In Sales

50 cent number 1 worldwide.

Universal Music Group

The king of rap returns with Curtis

On the same day as Kanye West, another heavyweight in Universal Music Group’s stable of hip-hop artists let loose a new album: Curtis , in record stores on September 11, is 50 Cent’s third release on the Aftermath label. This new album of authentic, no-frills, uncompromising rap from 50 Cent (whose real name is Curtis Jackson) includes guest appearances by some of the biggest names in the business, from Eminem to Dr. Dre and Timbaland.

Curtis has already racked up sales of nearly 2 million in less than a week and appears on track to match the records set by 50 Cent's previous albums, Get Rich or Die Tryin', which sold 11 million copies and became the top-selling record of 2003, and The Massacre , released in 2005 with sales of nearly 8 million.

^^I cant stand him

This new single "Stronger" really drives home how mediocre he really is in my eyes.

He is most over rated rapper and producer of all time. His production is ok at best(nowhere near RZA or Dre) and he cant rap for shit.

But at least he tries to be creative unlike 50 Cent and i seem to be one of a only a few people that never liked him.

I guess i never really understood the hype that has surrounded Kanye West. I could never understand the fuss.

Sorry, but this proves absolutley nothing seeing as how there are no actual numbers. Also this is bullshit seeing as how your using fifty's sales in countries where graduation is either not released(or not counted?). 50 is set to sell nearly two million copies worldwide? Well chances are Kanye outsold him seeing as he has nearly 2 million copies sold in the US and Uk ALONE. All you 50 dick riders get the fuck outta here, he finally talked some shit he couldn't back up and is now trying to cover his ass by putting bullshit like this out.

your opinion and that's cool. i don't think he is AS good as RZA or Dre, but he's up there. and although he's not a great MC, he can rap. and he can rap better than 50. at least in my opinion.

What? You really think its fair to add in two countries where 50 sold well and Kanye hasn't been released yet? Lol seriously? And what exactly do the links tell us? 50 is number one but whether that #1 is 100,000 or 500,000 it doesnt say therefore they prove absolutly nothing until the numbers are put in.

imo most people have low knowledge on hip-hop, that's why artists like Kanye or 50 cent sell so many albums.
If people would at least have that basic knowledge they would go further, search deeper and we would have for example Cilvaringz or Freedom Writers soundtrack on top now.

The problem is that hip-hop only recently became popular and it's on top now, that's why masses switched rock, pop, disco or whatever to rap music now because it's cool.
And which album should they buy? They have no idea so they buy what's the most popular (magazines, mtv, radio).
And who is the most popular? 50 cent, Timbaland, Kanye west eventually T.I. All of them (ok maybe except T.I. who is not bad) are wack as rappers. 50 cent went on a hype because of eminem and his stories. From that moment he still hangs on the same hype. Untill they won't stop writing about him, showing him in tv etc. he will be popular, but when it will happen nobody will listen to him, no real hip-hop head would even care to take a listen to his album because hip-hop wise he is just wack. Kanye west is on the hype because of his affiliation with Jay-Z, his accident and "through the wire" track. He got SO many radio/mtv plays it's unbelievable. That's why he became popular and still is because he keeps releasing albums that still get a lot of radio play.
That's how it works unfortunately. Cachy track + xxxxxxxx plays per week =success.

It's like with books, if average Joe would go to buy a book it would most probably be something ordinary like Spider-man comic, "how to lose fat in one week" or something on similar low level.
Somebody who knows more about literature will go and buy something on higher level like Shakespeare etc. Somebody with even higher knowledge will buy something even better. There's a huge analogy to our hip-hop subject.

Um, Kanye crushed 50 Cent in sales. Kanye won the competition. Go to mtv.com/news and you'll see. The competition about who would sell more records the first week was in the US, I believe. Here is a quote:

"Kanye West easily bested 50 Cent in their much-hyped SoundScan clash, pushing 957,000 copies of Graduation against 691,000 copies of the G-Unit star's Curtis in its first six days of sales, according to Billboard. "

I'm pleasantly surprised by this. 50 Cent was never very good but I bought his first two records. The Massacre was absolute garbage and I decided I might not buy Curtis. After hearing the first 4 singles, I decided I'm not buying it. Amusement Park and I Get Money were trash, Ayo Technology was good but that was all. The other day I heard "Follow My Lead" and words can't express how awful that song is.

And Kanye's album is awesome

i gotta admit.. i'm pretty ignorant about hip hop.... i really dont care that much about the history of the rappers that i like, however that isnt to say i dont know something about them... i agree with the comparisions you made to literature, pop. lit vs. something that requires higher intelligence to read and understand...

while listening to 50 cent's recent, redundant shit doesnt mean you're stupid, in reality or musically, but if that's all your listen to, then you either really dont care much for hip hop, or you're narrowing your focus to popular artists...

very rarely do the 5 star albums make it to the top of billboards... not rarely, i guess, but not often enough... im gonna use a generic example, the group JMT, and how very few people knowo f them, same with immortal, vinnie paz as solo artists.. why is that? i dunno the numbers of common's recent album, but i doubt it went platinum... correct me if i'm wrong, but it was an above average album, it just wasnt the pop lit. of music, something interesting to the masses.... unless he features on a kanye song, i rarely hear common's name...

personally, i think hip hop is now like the WWE, at least back when i used to watch it when it was still the WWF... wrestler hates the other wrestler.. there's beef... they drag it on over a couple months, then a new wrestler's introduced and now the previous two that were fighting are now friends and then team up to take on this new guy.... as far as the fans go, especially on forums, not this one, members follow rap news as closely as a stock broker follows the market... every minute is trying to find new shit to report on.. "50 cent hates olivia...ooooo"... some members really take it too far when they keep up with news like this...

at the end of the day, rap like wrestling is really just a game and fake... there's storylines that are played out just to entertain and make money for the rappers and get them publicity...

can you write anything more than "delete this"?

Maybe post your opinion if you think you could prove I'm wrong? I hate it when people are like "delete this", "your opinion sucks" etc. Just take your time to write what you think, and if it's all you have to say then better don't say anything at all as it doesn't bring anything here.

In this case I'm quite sure about my opinion, It evolved in me for a long time and I guess with every information I read I'm even more sure about it.

I also agree with dilla.
I don't know shit about O.C's, AZ's, even any BCC or JMT member's private life
because magazines don't write anything about them even tho they are 1st class rappers. Even if any of above got shot we probably wouldn't know about it from mtv or any other mainstream media.
All I see is: "50 cent this, Kanye that, Jay-z fucked somebody and broke up with somebody else, oh wait he didn't, we lied" etc. they show their lifes like they were in big brother or some other similar "reality show". And people don't even know that most of that stuff = lies.

edit: one more think about 50's new album and his beats.. one thing makes me wonder - how can his album be succesful if his best beat probably "created" by Timbaland (ayo technology) is a melody created and used 8 years ago by a playstation cracking team - "Paradox"..

^^ well its not like i want to know about underground rapper's lives more than i do mainstream shitty ones.... i dont give a shit... the people that take rap to seriously and follow up on news and disses, arrests, and court dates have no lives of their own... its one thing to do with sports and be a sports fanatic... sure, its still unhealthy, but you're following something real... you think rap is real? do i need to say that half the rappers act and rap about lives they never lead?

Delete this, as in the post I made. It wasn't aimed dierectly at you, although my original post was.

Just hop off the ignorance pedestal alright.

And far as you Timbo thing, he made a beat by using another beat, OH MY.
