I can ride with Saigon, go discover his mixtapessssss please. And also, Pap, Lupe, ehhhh with Ortiz, and Rich Boy, I think mainly cus of Polow, but he had some nice surprises on his album. Dro is actually a clever ass dude with some witty lines too, I just think he cares about the business too much, he'll do what hes doin makin dumb it down music, but his album did have its moments also.

If someone comes in here and says if this is where rap is heading it is dead type shit I will do my best to slap you across the face from where I sit.

Saigon and Papoose have yet to prove themselves, but I think they'll come thorough. Lupe is one of the best out right now. He's just giving hip-hop a breath of fresh air with his dope lyrics and meaningful content that is rare these days. I heard one song by Joell Ortiz called "Hip Hop" I think and I was impressed.

I dont see how people are saying Sai and Pap are yet to prove themselves when they have more material out then the rest of these dudes, even those who have released albums. Especially Pap, he has crazy amounts of tapes out. Granted they don't have an album out but only like 3 or 4 of these dudes do. I guess I'm saying you already know if you like em or not, they have that much shit out there.

My I love Lupe Fiasco's tunes man, he's a real MC, he talks real talk, not about cars and hoes and diamonds and shit, my favourite on that list.

Hopefully the No Child Left Behind Act will help improve their education.

I wouldn't be surprised if in 5 years only one of those rappers is still on the radar.

There is more to releasing an album than just having material.

Ok?

When someone says they are yet to prove themselves I take it as they are yet to prove you like em or not. For them two there is more than enough material(quality shit too, not just your run of the mill rap this whatever verse over whoevers beat, they have actually made songs) for someone to base an opinion on them. What else do they have to prove, they can sell an album or something. If someone was to say they have to show they can craft an lp then ok, but I don't get that from this cover. Just look at who they used, none of these artists are leading in anything really, it's just XXL sayin these dudes are who to look for and who they think is gonna take over. And when someone says the yet to prove thing I'm like what are you talkin about

The article is called Leaders of The New School, Saigon and Pap are yet to prove that they are leaders. They are yet to put together an album that shows any sort of unique direction or leadership.

Crooked I is at least helping revive the West Coast, Pap and Saigon really arent doing anything to "lead," they're just dropping mixtapes, albiet dope ones, but they are yet to prove they can lead or even seperate themselves from the pack.

I got you, I guess it's pretty much how you take what XXL is doin. I'll try to talk about Sai and Pap "leading" later, see what we can get from that.

It seems to me that Crooked has been a "newcomer" since 2004-2005...
I think Crooked I has been a newcomer since the early 2000's (2000-2001 or so). That's right around the time when he first sceduled "Say Hi To The Bad Guy". People was mad anticipating that album, since he was one of the most talented lyricists back then. Personally i think he's grown a lot. Back then he was mainly a gangsta rapper with a few lyrical tricks up his sleeve, but he's really improved his deliverance, style, flow and substance (on gangsterism haha). Personally, i think that if he did release that debut album back then, it woulda sounded like a Soopafly album: got its highs and lows, but it woulda been far from consistent.

His consistency should be way up by now.

Ps, where is Lil Boosie from? West Coast or down South?

Saigon: havent been impressed yet
Rich Boy: i like him, outta all the other young southern guys he's at least impressed me
Lupe Fiasco: he's pretty good
Lil Boosie: not impressed really at all. might have like on song i liked but not much there.
Gorilla Zoe: Who? ditto
Joell Ortiz: Liked what i've heard
Crooked I: good but want to hear more. been around a while and doesnt seem all that new to me
Papoose: havent heard enough
Young Dro: i like this guy. he does need to step up outta ti's shadow but he's good.

i think they coulda got cashis or bobby creek in there from shady seeing as how everyone says xxl is all on fifty and em's dicks. i like those two a lot. cashis is more of a regular rapper but he's impressed me. really liked the ms. jenkins song, very nice concept. prolly been done b4 but with a beat by eminem it's gold. I really like all the Bobby Creek stuff i have heard though. I think it's the voice i really like but he's good too.
