As you might know I have not been able to get on this site for over two weeks now. Everytime I go to this site it tells me, "This Server is taking to long to respond" every single time. This site is the only site on the internet that I can't get on. I have tried from three different computers in the house and tells me the same thing each time. I have tried to do it straight from my modem, through my router, reset my modem, reset my router, same thing every time. It's not my ISP and it's not my Computer cause I have tried three computers in the same house. My friend in the neighborhood next to me has the same ISP and can get on with no problems. This is the weirdest shit ever and it doesn't make since. There is just no facts that it is coming from my end, and no facts that it is coming from the server because all of my SH friends can get on. Why would it just not let me connect one day? I have been on the same computer for atleast three years and SH for five. Nothing has changed on my computer. I don't want to stop posting on SH and I have many friends on here. Does anyone have any ideas cause I have tried everything possible? Let me repeat nothing has changed on my computer, I have tried three computers in my house. Reset my modem and router, tried without the router. MY friend in the next hood over can connect fine on the same ISP. Please make sure you read before giving any ideas that I have already done.

Hey, for real. The admins should try and help him out. I have no extensive computer knowledge so it's beyond my hands but somebody should do something if they're able to. Jeremy is a big part of this community and I feel it's a shame that the admins don't seem to care.
 
i think maybe the best thing to do is to reformat your computer (if you already havent) and start fresh...u might have some kind of bug on ur computer.....or maybe u accidently changed some kind of script or something while one day browsing here

Did you not read that he said he's tried it with THREE different computers?

Seriously he's been tryin to get on for like a few weeks already and so far nothing has worked. Anybody know wat might be the problem?

Im no admin. Plus, just like SOFI, i aint got no knowledge about how computers/internet work. Otherwise i would have helped him instantly.

First of all, yes - it doesn't make sense.

I guess he tried different browsers, right?

I agree, first of all he should try to connect via direct IP which is 69.61.60.14 for streethop.... if he can connect via IP it's a DNS problem.

Anyway, the only thing that actually would explain the situation would be that streethop is 'banned' on Jermey router.... so he should connect to the router and check that.
 
Has he tried using proxies? Like maybe try using a proxy from some random ass country. I do that sometimes.

You are the only person who is remotely close to being onto something.

I had a similar problem once with Norton's auto update feature. Nothing changed, I did nothing manually, but one day it just wouldn't let me connect to their servers. I tried visiting their site and it wouldn't work. Everything else worked, JUST norton. there is a file somewhere in your windows folder, i think C:\Windows\System32. i don't remember the exact filename, but it's like "links" or "page" or "file" or something, and it was extensionless to what i can remember. In this file, there is information on how your PC is gonna override the network card. In this file is specified that 127.0.0.1 is always your computers IP when you are trying to access your computer via TCP/IP from your own computer. for some reason, norton's servers had been added to this list. everytime i typed in an addy or ip or whatever that was under symantec.com, it would take me to 127.0.0.1, that is, to my own computer, regardless of what browser i used. i opened the file, removed the redirect line that basically just said something like this:

www.symantec.com 127.0.0.1

with like a few tabulators in between. i proposed this to jeremy, but i dont remember the name of the file. if anyone knows, drop it here and i'll have him search for it and see if this could be it. it's a shot in the dark, but it happened to me once, and people have been struck by the lightening up to six times, so.

other than that, like menace said, if anyone hasnt done so thus far, propose that he tries to connect to the site through ip. maybe the dns provider is the problem end. our corporate salesman has left for the day and it's weekend, but if i can remember it and no one else finds a solution over the weekend, i'm gonna ask him on monday. he used to be a network operator and has worked with fixing pc problems for a decade or so. if he doesn't know, i think god has it in for jeremy.
 
hehe basically u say the same thing, I thought maybe the router might block the side but of course the OS itself can do the same thing .... since it happens on all 3 PC's though I think it rather is the router, cause all three PC's use the same inet access.

seems smart eh.;)

P.S: Tell Jermey that we gonna find a way to have him back on the board. We are not going to let him down somewhere in the middle of no where without pacboard. ;)

of course. i wasn't thinking straight, but yes, that is definately not it (what i proposed above).

i know if a parameter is left somewhere it's not supposed to be, it can cause problems. we have two cash registers behind our counter. in our cash register system, every sale is called an order. it's very similar to an MS Access database, where every order gets an automatically generated key. The most recent order I made was 700604718. When I'm in the regular money order interface, I hit F2 to create a new order. My request is sent to the server in the backroom, which sends it to the central server, which then creates the order and sends back the basic template information about the new order through the same route to my ordering interface. Then I see the new order. This all takes 0.1 seconds though, but if both cash registers are occupied and the two of us create a new order within a split second of eachother, normally, we both get the same key but when we start to input information like the customer's name, our seller id key, and start putting in whatever the customer is using, we are making two completely different orders with the same key. Everything is updated in real time when I make a change to an order. When we have two orders with the same key, and data is submitted to the server, it gets confused. In the end we have to delete both our orders and then create new ones.

In a router, you have potential for some several thousand ports, there's different protocols, there is wan and lan, as well as the routing function. Data packets is sent and received from everywhere. If somehow, a corrupted data pack was sent somewhere, or if something happened that's similar to the principle above, it could possibly corrupt the routers firmware. Meaning while the router setup interface might insist that the site isn't blocked, there may be a problem in the router that you can't change from the interface.

Maybe updating the router firmware? Or if there is no new version, update it but use the current version cab.
 
The problem is with his ISP, they have stopped him resolving the DNS of the site. Why I don't know, but that is the only reason why that would happen. Just because his friend is on the same ISP means jack, its not the same connection, if it was the same, they would share the same IP.
