"Who's Now"

with the fallout and negative feedback from MTV's Hottest MCs, i think it would be more accurate to do a bracket-style tourney such as ESPN's "Who's Now" and let board members vote each round.

we would need to take a bunch of the rappers out now and pit them against each other, eventually leading to the hottest MC--notice how i kept the theme from the MTV list, not "the best rapper".

i also think it would be cool to name the regions but, instead of by era like ESPN, do it by geographic region: North/Midwest, West, East, and South. I would recommend Pac for the West, BIG for the East, and Scarface for the South. I don't know about the other region.

If anyone is willing to do something like that, that would be awesome. Since I don't listen much to the radio, and when I do it's crap, I don't think I would be able to do something too extensive.

Who's in?

Haha, funny you thought of this. I watch ESPN all the time (every morning) and I thought about bringing this idea up. But I thought again and I didn't like the idea. Cause I wouldn't like 90% of the rappers going up against eachother. So I wouldn't be too interested. But I suppose if you were going to pick a bunch of commercial rappers, it would be something like..

Lil Wayne, Fat Joe, Juelz Santana, The Game, 50 Cent, Kanye West, Young Jeezy, TI.. etc.

However, I think it would be interesting to do in a different way. Have a bunch of rappers that are considerd legends in the Hip Hop game and match them up against eachother a certain way. Rappers like Nas, Big Daddy Kane, Slick Rick, Kool G Rap, Krs One, Az, Pac, Pun, Biggie, Big L, Rakim, Ice Cube, Jay-Z, Guru, Chuck D, Q-Tip, Redman, LL.. the list goes on. Know what I mean? I think THAT would be interesting and i'd be willing to put that together. Thing is, would it be worth doing? Would enough people participate? It would be interesting if so. But if not, why bother wasting our time?

I'd rather that we take meaningful words in hip hop such as "classic", "lyricist", "swagger", "flow", etc and just define the fuck out of them. Get into their fucking etymological meanings and shit and get somewhat of a consensus on their meanings so that we can better discuss hip-hop in here.

Well that's another subject completely, lol. I know how you can be sarcastic sometimes, but i'm assuming you're serious about that. Start a thread. What more can you really do? lol.

I started it off. You can continue with words that you're pissed about getting thrown around too easily.

Ok, so i'm at work and here's what I just thought of..

* First of all, we have a certain amount of people that will rate/vote. I think it's better that way instead of a poll because we can see everyones explination. With a poll, people would simply pick favorites and vote. Plus the people that will be doing the rating/voting will be picked (that we could make a thread for) and they'd obviously have the knowledge and they'd be able to do this all correctly.

* As far as the voting/rating system goes, I came up with a simple idea. Nothing really original, just something quick, but effective. Here's an example..

Big Pun vs. Biggie
Flow 8.0 7.0
Albums 7.5 8.0
Lyrical Ability 9.0 7.5
We can come up with some more catagories too, I just listed 3 to provide that example. And it would be from 0-10 (10 being the highest). It would work good that way instead of just saying "this one is better" or "that one is better". Cause one can have 10 albums and kill the other rapper in that department, yet the other rapper could make up for it if he's considered a better emcee and has better lyrical ability. Ya know?

Just an idea, let me know what you think. Again, this would only be fun/interesting if people were willing to read it and give feedback as it's going on. Plus we have to find a good amount of knowledgeable hip hop heads to be the raters for this. That I don't think we would have a problem with. If we were to have 10 raters, the maximum a rapper could get in one catagory would be 100. Get it? If we were to have 5, the most the rapper could get it 50. After everyone rates the rappers in the different catagorys and writes their reasons why they chose what they chose, someone tallys up all the #'s and writes up the final #'s and post what everyone wrote about it.

i like this, but i also think that we should let everyone have a say. we can do it like the ESPN thing where they have a panel, but make theirs only worth a certain weight, and then use the public opinion as the rest of the weight.

Well that came to mind too, cause I know that's how they do it on ESPN. My problem with that is.. too many peoples votes will be bullshit. Unless we do it where everyone CAN vote (and the panel does their own shit), but they have to leave a GOOD explination and everything as well. If the number of people who say they voted and left their explination doesn't match up to the number of votes, the extra amount of votes get taken away. You know?

Yeah i'd like to get crackin' with it, but I need more people to let me know it's worth putting the effort into. Should I take the idea, write it out, give examples and then make a poll with "Yes" and "No" options to see whether or not people think it's a good idea?
