If one were to go up to random people and ask them to write their names in a notebook and donate a dollar, would it be considered a scam or something illegal?

Like if I wanted to meet a million people in like a 1 year span and I wanted to write down each person I met--name down and take a dollar from them too, would that be illegal?

I'd tell them that I wanna meet a million people and make a million dollars too at the same time and after I made the money I'd like I dunno, like publish the book or shout them out or something.

It's funny cause I came up with an idea very similar to that not too long ago. I mentioned it to some people at work and some thought it was a good idea and some didn't. Some just kinda laughed and didn't know what to think. I guess cause it sounds nearly impossible to do?
