Americans & Gas Prices

^ lol, Puff
As I tried to explain to SOFI last night the UK is not Europe... It is completely seperate... An Eastern European country that makes Monkey noises is not the UK....
That's why I was sure to use Europe in some places and UK in the others.

You quote many statistics... But have you actually visited the UK? Or are you just quoting CNN....
Actually, I was reading of the fact sheet that I saved from my European government class, which was taught by one of the leading experts in the field. He's the lovechild of the Swedish government.

And your stats are wrong... We pay all the tax's and insurances... We pay for University... And we pay for day care... The only free part is health care... And it's not exactly well run.
Yea, the UK does. It's a residual welfare state, much like the U.S. In fact, most of the stats are similar. Our Gini index's of disposable income are actually equal. So in the end, it mostly balances out.

And you don't pay neeaaaaarly as much as we do for college.

I love it when ppl generalize Europe as a whole... I guess they're not aware of the number of countries in Europe.

The UK is very very good with minorities and they seldom have racist attitudes in football. This isn't the 80s where mad hooligans were the problem. You have more racist fans in Italy than in all of UK. As for us Eastern Europeans... we are insane, so leave us alone. lol

I knew I shouldn't have offended soccer around you :D

Lol at both sides of this fence, Euro's & Yanks. Try living on a fricken island where petrol is registered per/litre and it's still costs as much if not more then what you get from a gallon in some places. Yanks starting that war in Iraq screwed petrol prices in Aus..

Brits screw Australia, Yanks screw Australia... yet we're the loyal little brother always up for whatever fights YOU guys as nations start.

petrol prices are ridiculous, no I don't need a singing toilet scientists.. I need a car that runs on some other energy source...

peac3.

Tupac, yup that was us.
Hitler, yup that was you.

Pixxy, is this 8 your people money? or mine?

Yours, hence the $ and not the £.

Basically £1 = $2.

So we're saying that gas is regularly over £4 a gallon in the big cities here. Which equals $8 a gallon.

I do all my entertainment shopping in the US. I know I'll be there at least once every year - like I just was - and I buy all my CD's, DVD's, clothes etc there. I bought over 20 DVDs in Portland last week and it cost me less then $150 for them all which equals £75. To buy all those same DVD's here would have cost me at least £200, which equals $400.

People who buy a lot of stuff here are literally just throwing money away. Like I said before, it cost me less to buy some sneakers on eBay USA and pay for shipping over here than it would to get them from a shop here. It's ridiculous.

I tend to find the UK has more similarities between itself and the States than it does with Europe... Which is why studies on Europe don't really get to grips with the UK...

Yes our higher learning is cheaper... Therefore making it available to all classes and to anyone no matter their financial status....

Ok, I don't think this has been pointed out yet.

Highest sales tax in the USA is currently 7%
Sales Tax for the UK has been 17.5%, and it has been for at least 15 years.

In my state, It's 8.9%

I assume you mean the average in the US, and not the highest sales tax?

Pitts is right Mili, Most Americans are racists, even if they don't publically admit it.
don't you love it when people generalize nearly an entire country based on their ideas of what that country is all about? there has been a lot of generalizing going around in this thread but this one really struck me. how can anyone say that most of the people in a country are racist? when it comes down to it, everyone has some racism or prejudice in them, and America is no different. the government has a lot of racist policies, true, but to just generalize and say that most of the US is racist is just stupid and incorrect. if that's true i guess it must be true that almost all Brits have bad teeth.

ps: SOFI, check your pm's

lmao why does everyone say this? where does this come from? austin powers or something?

my wife always jokes around and says this. i don't have bad teeth though.

anyway yeah to say most americans are racist is a massive generalization. I haven't found it to be true. The cities are very diverse. The backwater towns, well...that's different.

Austin Powers was just continuing the stereotype, i used to hear that when i was a kid, long before Mike Myers put on those fake teeth lol. but i wonder where it came from as well, the few Brits i've met usually have very nice teeth :)

there's one about british women as well. my past experience tells me they are partially true. i have met several brits with bad teeth. actually, they were never bad so much as they were crooked and incoherent lol. it also feels like a pretty british chick is a one in ten, because i don't remember seeing THAT many super hot ones, but i do remember having seen a lot of less pretty british girls.

whole thing of course is stupid though cause every country has pretty and ugly people lol.

yeah but katie's hot, and has nice teeth, so she shatters that stereotype

oh yes, many women do for me :D i'm just saying though, i see where the stereotype came from, but this is one of those stereotypes that, really, are a little bit far out there compared to the truth.

to the subject at hand, uh yeah, racism. i don't like it.

How can you take pride in everything your country does for the disenfranchised and then complain about high taxes?

It's one way or the other - you're either selfless and empathetic like George Soros, or you're selfish and merciless like Puff.
