this has to be a joke. why on earth they would give him the title is beyond me.

The WWE website spoiled this Friday's Smackdown, announcing that Edge relinquished the WWE World champion due to a pectoral tear, as reported over the weekend here on the site. WWE needed to come up with a last minute plan to get the title off Edge and they did so at the TV taping.

The following is the WWE.com statement: A new World Heavyweight Champion walks tall among us this night, and his name is The Great Khali. No, you’ve read this right – The Great Khali now holds sports-entertainment’s most elite prize, one that dwarfs even his 7-foot-3, 420-pound frame. During tonight’s taping of SmackDown in the Laredo Entertainment Center, he won the title in true colossal fashion, by being the last man to stand inside the ring after an excruciatingly hard-fought 20-Man Battle Royal. The historic contest had been ordered by SmackDown General Manager Theodore Long, who earlier this evening had ordered an injured Edge to surrender the World Heavyweight Title. After pulling off his truly enormous feat, the largest World Heavyweight Champion in WWE history needs a challenger for The Great American Bash. A No. 1 Contender’s Match – also ordered this evening by SmackDown GM Long – will determine whether it’s Batista, whom Khali had originally agreed to face this Sunday, or Kane, the Big Red Monster who was supposed to meet Edge at the pay-per-view. And the only way to find out who wins that contest – as well as how Khali walked out of Laredo with the World Heavyweight Title – is to watch SmackDown this Friday night at 8/9 CT on the CW.

so what will this do. move Batista into the match an have a triple threat match.

Kane does deserve to be champ. hes the most underated wrestler on RAW and SD.

WWE will go opposite Batista or Khali as champ. i read Edge got hurt so i figure he'll give up the title

there were a few options they were going to go with for champion, there was kahli, batista and matt hardy. i wish they went with matt. but i agree kane def deserves another title run because that 24 hours back in 98' isnt enough.

The World Heavyweight Championship, and SmackDown as a whole, is cursed. There's no other explanation for all the injuries they get.

Batista vs. Khali will be for the belt. Never thought I'd say this, but I hope Batista wins the title.

This is what I would have done;

Edge vacates, Teddy Long announces a big multi-person title match for the Great American Bash. Maybe even an Elimination Chamber match. Batista and Khali go in there, so does Kane, Flair and Finlay could take two spots and then the last would be a mystery opponent. Shitty line-up, but it's a gimmick match so it would probably draw people in. At the end of SmackDown, Teddy Long announces the mystery 6th competitor for the Chamber match...the returning Triple H. Big pop, draw plenty of buys. The match comes down to Trips and Batista, Trips wins. He stays on SmackDown! for a whlie, giving the RAW guys time to play out their feuds, then drops the belt and goes over to RAW some how (since I doubt he'd want to stay on the B show).

i actually like edge as champ. it sucks he got injured i was looking forward to the original card at GAB. kane and edge would have been great but batista and kali would have been an even greater match. but now the triple threat match is kind of like.....i dont know it will probably suck. i just hope batista wins it back.

but on a side note cena vs. lashely is going to be dope

I don't hate Cena, and he certainly carried Khali to a decent match at that last PPV, but against Lashley I'm not confident we'll get a good match.

Batista just sucks. Put him in the ring with someone as inept as Khali and you'd have a disaster.
