I had been waiting to buy this for ages.I had heard some songs already and seen alot of people praising it.I didnt want to download it because i like to support talented artists like El-P.I hadn't seen it in any record stores here in Ireland.I had been checking nearly every week for it and then on thursday i finally got my hands on it.

Ive been listening to it since i got it and all i can say is wow. It was well worth the wait. Its the best album ive heard in a while. The production is amazing. The lyrics are brilliant and EL-P comes great on every song.

I would give this album 5 out of 5.The songs im feeling the most at the moment are Up All Night, Flyentology and the Overly Dramatic Truth.

I bought this album, listened to the first few tracks. It sounded like too much was going on. Maybe I gotta give it another listen, is this the type of album that grows on you?

Anyone got "The Overly Dramatic Truth" in a good 192 or maybe even in a untagged 128 quality?

It would be greatly appreciated, searched high and low for that track in dope quality.

Bought it heard it 3 or 4 times has collected dust ever since. Sorry but this ish though dope isn't something I'm overly hyped about plus I had no anticipation or expectations prior to it dropping. I just took it for what it was, good, no more no less.

Personally, this album isn't something you "get" after listening to it 3 or 4 times.

Every little phrase is designed for y'all to rewind it
Every brittle phase has an expiration assignment
Eyes wide
The bad man walks alive with five dimes of sticky the bush and no 9
Who was trained by Ed Koch to hop a turnstyle
See cop smile
Peep cops gun
Now see little juvenile me in reeboks run
Through the projected transformation of the catacombs, son
Makin' it home's so fun
If you're alone, don't sweat
'Cause you're alone with the best
The underrated phrase mason who's leakin' pain to cassette
If you hate lies, don't fret
'Cause I can't lie about this
At least I'm honest when I tell you my mind's full of shit

[edit] I will try to make this the last time I defend El-P. When I listen to the voices of people around me complain about Hip Hop and the lack of creativity coming from rappers, I take those words personally, because I consider myself to be a part of Hip Hop. So what do I do? I stop burning CD's with albums they want. And they want these albums because they get their information from the radio, television and XXL. I try to open new doors for them. I see that people in this thread are enjoying The Overly Dramatic Truth. I'm glad. It's a great track, and on the album, it's probably the closest song to be "inside the box". So, I decided to introduce El-P to the people around me through The Overly Dramatic Truth. Guess what happened? After listening to it once, they dismissed it. They weren't feeling it. Now, everyone has a different taste, but a beat is a beat and The Overly Dramatic Truth is not that abstract, so I figure the painted image would be similar throughout. Then why aren't they feeling it? Because they are lazy. Because they are conditioned to like what they've heard already, and what they've heard already is what they don't like. They find comfort in routines. They're fine with the 6 bullshit songs that blocks the road noise while commuting. They find comfort in watching their favorite television show at the same time on the same day every week. They're fine with Kells and Usher clones singing boring RnB love songs that sound all the same because all that bullshit is universal, even Forrest can get it. They don't allow themselves to go further because they would rather sit and be a zombie. I get stronger and stronger, they get weaker and weaker.

The edit was not directed at Syns but something about a good album collecting dust caught my attention and I needed to go further with it.

it's alright, vent what you need to. i did say the album is good and the reason its collecting dust at the moment is 'cause my musical attention is elsewhere on other recordings i prefer. i'll chill on something and bump it one day again, i did buy it after all. el-p is cool i've thoroughly enjoyed his earlier works it's just a case of hit or miss sometimes.

understand tho alot of people complain/-then still sleep on dope recordings. ?thats just the way it is. as for the strong/weak thing, man i know a few if not alot of people who i think in my op. listen to some real bs/garbage repeatitively but that hasn't stopped them from reaching goals and doing something. what it is.

peace.

never digged dat abstract shit y´know.dunno why.
name some tyte songs by el-p.
first off i'd suggest you check out company flow. company flow is a group consisting of el-p, bigg jus and dj mr. len. jus and el-p cover the rapping side of things, el-p and len cover the production/dj side of things.

on their album "funcrusher plus" there are several very hot songs. the term deuce used, "abstract shit", is a little bit relevant in this context. the album has some elements of abstract..ity.. lol. it's not anywhere near el-p's solo projects though. it's a LOT more hip-hop inspired, not so much trip-hop. the lyrics are very abstract though. favorite songs on that album include "info kill ii", "lencorcism," "last good sleep," and "silence". particularly "silence," which is one of the dopest basslines i have ever heard maybe.

i would suggest that you check out the company flow album first and let it grow on you a little before moving on. then next i'd suggest you check out cage, who el-p produced quite a lot of tracks for. his 2005 album "hell's winter" was a pretty solid effort and his most praised work to date i think, either way it's a pretty cool album. favorite tracks include "too heavy for cherubs," "hell's winter," "good morning" and "lord have mercy". the beats on this album are superb. there are a couple i don't like, but the general sound of this album is very cool to me. cage also has some earlier works if you like him. he calls it emo rap himself. it basically is.

from there on out i would check out el-p's solo shit which is pretty abstract sounding. and if you ever learn to like el-p's solo shit you should also check out cannibal ox, a group consisting of i don't even remember off top. vast aire is one of them. only song i remember off of "fantstic damage" is "t.o.j." there were a few more tracks i liked but that one is the only one i remember the name for.

random fact: el-p stands for "el producto"
