I thought about something. It's been a few weeks since the site changed servers and I am already noticing severe problems with server load. I don't think moving to a new server is the answer.

Now if you excuse me for a second, I am gonna compare this forums statistics to that of another forum for you, MrMakaveli. Now I can't speak for the site's administration because I don't know, but I think it's a fair assumption that since they don't make any money on their site, they don't pay a lot more than you for their server. They obviously have more activity, and more active posters, but they don't have server problems.

MrMakaveli has 15,000 threads, 250,000 posts, some 3,000 members, all of whom are active. Streethop has 60,000 threads, 700,000 posts, 30,000 members, of whom 3,000 are considered "active" by the forum. This statistic can't be right? There are never a lot of people viewing each forum, and there aren't enough new posts to explain that many active members. Maybe some of the imported data from an old forum is showing?

Anyway, the idea is basically that do we need 27,000 inactive members and 400,000 year-old posts that serve only one purpose, cluttering up the server's database? Wouldn't pruning some of these accounts and posts probably do some good? If it's a heavy task, and you could somehow give me the proper permissions to do the job without giving me full access, I would gladly help out. I'm sure there are more people who would.

Or have i misunderstood how a forum database works?

I was wondering the same. There are so many members that have registered back in 2003 or 2004 but have never posted.Maybe deleting the accounts of inactive members won't make much of a difference.Id imagine it would have been done by now if it made a big difference.

I would help out deleting accounts if needed as well.

I say delete all the people that haven't posted in over 5 years. Anyone who's last post was before July 2002.

If it is slowing down the site then good luck to it.People have email accounts on hotmail, yahoo, gmail etc to send emails. It was a nice feature for VIPs but i wont lose any sleep if its gone.

hmm maybe that would be a good idea..but what if those people that dont post anymore acctually decide to come back?..i think when ppl visit streethop and make an account here they should feel like if they sign up here, it will be there home for life..but yeah id like some new traffic on here..not just demanding..ive even broughten ppl to this site...and even added streethop.com to those sites where we could get more traffic in...but still...we need more ppl in here..

There are loads of streethop members that have never even posted here.Look in todays birthdays. There is a guy called Tupac Sucks and he hasn't even got one post.Whats the point of him having an account here.

The email system been taken away seems to have speeded things up again anyway.

IE-7 also seems to load the site slower than firefox. I have done some comparison between the two at home and found firefox syncs up instantly while I-E7 can take a few moments to load everything.

I think the reason SH loads faster on firefox is because it blocks out some or most of the adds and in IE it doesnt...depends what firewall or add popup blocker your using i guess...

If youre logged in you shouldnt have any ads apart from the Omar Kicks thing up the top and some google adds, which firefox does not block. There are no pop ups. If IE is giving you pop ups when you are logged in then run a virus and adware scanner ASAP.

As for the suggestions, no, wont be doing that.

What PM bug? Someone PM me about it...
