A String of Disappointments

There have been a few rap/hip-hop albums over the past year or two that i was really anticipating in the lead up to their release, but all of them were very disappointing. The first one was Busta Rhyme's The Big Bang.I was expecting big things from Busta on his Aftermath debut but apart from about 5 songs, the album was pretty mediocre.Other albums that i was looking forward to in advance, but was disappointed were:

Pac's Life
Obviously i anticipate every 2Pac release and i had high hopes for this but it was a major let down.It is the worst ever 2Pac album imo.

4:21 The Day After
I like Method Man and i like Tical and Tical 2000-Judgement Day.When i heard that Meth was to drop a new album i was excited.Went to the record store on release day to get this, got home and threw it on.Very dissapointing.Poor production for the most part.Meth seems past it now and only 2 or 3 songs worth talking about.

Food & Liquor I didnt really anticipate this one as much but a lot of people were building this up to be a classic. Its nothing special but its not the worst either.

Hip Hop Is Dead
Oh How i looked forward to this.I was waiting for months.Bought it on release day.I fooled myself into believing it was a classic album because i am a Nas fan.Its not and its pretty mediocre with little replay value for me anyway.

Full Circle Ive always liked Xzibit and At The Speed Of Light is one of my favourite albums but after the disappointment of Weapons of Mass Destruction i was expecting X to redeem himself.Instead we got Full Circle.

Year of The Dog Again
I was anticipating that DMX would change up his style for this one but its just the same as all his other albums.Same subject matter, similar production.DMX is well past his sell by date and has been boring for a while now.

The Blue Carpet Treatment
I wasnt really anticipating this at all as i am not a big Snoop fan but people here were praising this after its release and some were saying that the old Doggystyle Snoop was back.I decided to buy it.I was left wondering what the fuss was about. This album sucks.

Eardrum I was looking forward to the new Talib Kweli album for a while now.Ive downloaded it and given it a few listens.I feel that it is a bit disappointing but it might grow on me.Its not as good as Reflection Eternal or Quality imo.

For Whom The Beat Tolls.
As i said in the other thread, i couldnt wait anymore to hear Canibus's latest offering.Out of curiousity more than anything.I was listening to it today and i am disappointed by it.

I guess most of the albums that i have been anticipating the most have been released.I am happy with some but a lot of them have disappointed. The one i look forward to the most now is Raekwon's OB4CL2,but im kind of expecting to be disappointed.:(

What albums have disappointed you most?

I dunno I thought that Blue Carpet Treatment was Snoop's best material in a long time. He actually flowed on this and had lyrics to boot, not to mention the Dre reunion.

Eardrum besides 2 or so songs is banging hard for me too, I love that LP. Not as good as Train of Thought or Quality true but better then Right Now and Beautiful Struggle definitely.

Food & Liquor and especially 4:21 The Day After were solid too. Especially considering Mef released Tical 0 which was ass before this one. Hip-Hop Is Dead ain't half bad either. Actually the only ones that I thought was really disappointing was Pac's Life and Year of the Dog Again.

Pac's Life[/U][/B] I always think: maybe some unheards, all beats remixed (mostly bad), crappy features. It won't disappoint and I haven't been wrong so far. Even RUSD wasn't as good as it could've been.

4:21 The Day After
There are Wu albums between 1997-2007 that are great but I'm skeptical of anything post 1996.

Food & Liquor From what I've seen it is pretty hyped but I thought it was one of the better albums of the year. Solid productions and he holds his own.

Hip Hop Is Dead
I can't stand Nas anymore. His arrogance and delusion seeps into the making of his music and everything just sounds so pretentious and fake. It Was Written was a great album but He will not get close to making another Illmatic but he might make another good album. Just don't get your hopes up.

Full Circle First two albums are great. Next 3 sound pretty uninspired. How many songs have any real replay value? None of it is all that bad though, just nothing to get excited over. I haven't heard Full Circle yet though. I did see a live version of "Thank You" which was dope.

Year of The Dog Again
To me he became redundant after 2 albums. Unless you're really a fan I'd stick to the first 2 albums.

The Blue Carpet Treatment
Dre is a producer in the traditional sense of the word. He didn't necessarily make the music but he guided the sessions. Snoop is a fucking talent but Dre set him up like he did The D.O.C. and they created classics together. What happened afterward? Made some dope shit on the way but never using his full potential. He needs to work with Dre for about a year to make an album, maybe then it's something to get excited over. Even then...

Eardrum I liked Talib at first, then I started to dislike his flow, even his lyrics. He really had something in the beginning and just lost it. Quality was decent.

For Whom The Beat Tolls.
Lots of potentional but he's boring.

That's why I don't get excited over these kind of releases.

OB4CL2 It won't match up to the original in any way but it might be dope. Raekwon never lost it he just made 2 shitty albums.

Well there's your (and alot of other peoples) first problem. He doesn't need to make another Illmatic. He just needs to make another dope album(s). Can't always expect him to drop a classic and then hate on him when he doesn't.

Was actually saying it because every album gets hyped up to be "the next Illmatic".

Only albums that I can think of that I really anticipated...

DANGERDOOM's The Mouse and the Mask. It wasn't DOOM's best and Danger Mouse's beats really lacked replay value.
Cage's Hell's Winter. Loved it.
Quasimoto's The Further Adventures of Lord Quas. Very different sound from the first album. I never managed to get into it.
