Newcastle striker Obafemi Martins has revealed that he narrowly escaped death or serious injury after being shot at while driving in Lagos.

The Nigerian escaped unhurt but his friend was injured as masked gunmen fired repeatedly at his Mercedes.

"They shot indiscriminately and tried to kill all the occupants of the car. They weren't there to rob me but to finish me off," the 22-year-old was quoted as saying in The Sun.

"I thought I was going to die. They executed it like professional hired assassins. It was hell.

"I was dead in my heart and soul. It all happened like something in the movies."

He added: "How I managed to escape is still shocking and unbelievable. Maybe someone up there loves me more than I could imagine.

"I don't feel safe in Lagos any more. When the situation gets out of control I don't think coming home is something I can even contemplate."

The incident apparently happened near a petrol station where Martins grew up and still owns an apartment.

He was very lucky wasnt he.

Apparantly, the main suspect is Shola Ameobi as no one else could miss repeatedly from close range.

Yea if they were professionals,they would have taken him out with a single bullet.Apparently they shot over 20 times at the car.

There is something very shady about Martins though.For one he looks a lot older than he claims to be.He is known to go missing alot.He went missing for Newcastle's last game of the season i think.
