Although it's mad close between Clapton and Hendrix, I'd give it to Jimi purely on the basis that "he pushed the envelope".

And Mili, on your Pac vs. Big example...Big was never the lesser rapper compared to Pac, man. I'm kinda amazed you are arguing this. Sure, one can like Pac more, but they were two totally different people. Where Pac was the emotional, passionate, socially conscious rapper, Big was the technical genius. I mean, purely as a rapper, Big ripped Pac three new assholes. As an overall artist however, Pac trumped Biggie because of his subjects and passionate delivery. But to say, on a technical level, Pac was the better rapper compared to Big, is pure lunacy in my eyes.

This probably isn't the time and the place to be arguing this, but Tupac had a hand in the production as well so musically he was more involved and a more well rounded artist.

When you say Big ripped up 'Pac as a rapper, I have to disagree. Sure, in terms of delivery and flow I'll give him that, but he never sounded sincere in what he was saying, never once did his songwriting strike any kind of emotion in me other than "Damn, that was a tight flow" or "hmm, sick punchline".

And to me, striking a chord in someone to make them feel is what makes a great musician. And a good song to me is when the lyrics and the music correlate. BIG's lyrics barely ever correlated to the vibe of the beat in the same way as 'Pac's. Which is why, you always hear people freestyling and doing new songs over Biggie beats but not so much with 'Pac's.

Like can you imagine someone trying to flip the Cameo sample like 'Pac did on All About U and the concept was about pushin coke or something? Or someone trying to use the How Do U Want It sample with a whole new conceptual track? It just wouldn't fly.

It's the reason why I can't stand shit like Tori Amos' cover of "Smells Like Teen Spirit". The lyrics are meaningless when you sing them all slow over a fucking ballady piano backdrop, it's fucking pointless.

For me,the Biggie is only better than 2Pac as a lyricist and had a better flow.2Pac wins hands down in every other department,voice,lyrics,charisma,replay value etc.

Lets not turn this into a 2Pac/Biggie thread though.
