The Bible

Ive read it 7 times (no pun) in my life, 6 because I had to and once because my life was in turmoil so I turned to it. It gives little relief for personal problems imo.. but for some people it can be a remedy of sorts.

Right, and not to knock it down - that I know however watching Star Trek relieves my stress - doesn't make it real.

It's not one book, there are many stories. Some parts might be more intersting for u than others. U don't have to read it from start to finish, some parts in the old testament are really kinda boring but well, others are very intersting so well, if you're intersted I'd just suggest to start somewhere and we'll see what's next.

I say go for it. Don't try to read it like a book though. It'll wear you out with the Aaron beget shebath, beget Rebecca, beget disciples or something like that. It really goes on and on like that. Take it in books. Each book kinda has something similar going on because it was "supposedly" written by that person. I personally like the book of Psalms a lot. There are a lot of metaphors in there as to which you can use as guidelines for daily living but there's also a hell of a lot of BS in there. SO, I dunno skim around. Go book by book. I say read it.

Well, reading it from start to finish would get pretty tiresome, because the language is tedious.. and some parts just seem to drag on like when "and abraham had this son, and his son had aaron, and aarons son had elijah" (or something like that).

I once started to read it and exactly after this passage, which is right at the beginning on the first few pages, i stopped reading.

I say you read it. It has some good moral messages.

Then you should read it.

That's only in one book. Skip that passage and well, read and learn. Many sayings we use are written down in that old book, people just don't know where they come from. Plus if you read the bible, you always gotta remember that this text was meant to speak 2 people 1000s years ago, so the language sometimes seems odd or many can't understand figures etc... but that's just cause time changed, not cause the book itselfs is ...irrelevavt

lol

i was expecting "jesus dies at the end" :p

i have always wondered too and decided one day i shall read the bible.

He dies a way before the end.... And he isn't born until half way through. It's a bit like "Executive Decision"... The main star (Jesus or Segal) doesn't star for long.

I wouldn't call it half way through man, it's only the new testament and if u look at the pages, the old one is actually longer. anyway, it's the same in here as everywhere else, everybody talks about religion, jokes about it, etc.- but only a few actually read the book.

Seems like Pit knows the bible very well.

I like to read well written, intelligent books. Of which the bible is 1. And as are other religious texts. I just don't believe.

I was only joking....

I went to a school where religion was a large part. Not just christianity, although I have lived in a Christian country all my life... But we looked at other religions too... I remember being Rama in my school play for Diwali, Sita weren't too hot though.

Most good schools are largely religious based, in the UK, the new style comprehensives are usually ... Shit... And generic.

I hated the religion side at the time. But now I feel I benefited from it and that I have an interest in religious books that helps keep me well read.

There is nothing wrong with reading the bible or the Quran or whatever you want to read. Also some people take many YEARS to read something such as a bible. If you are looking to read a novel or something go read a harry potter book but if you actually want to take your time and really study and really think about what you are reading then the bible is good. Just remember it is ok to take your time (years if you wish) or if you wish you could read it all as much at a time as you wish. Also remember you don't have to believe anything you read either so whatever your religion is (If you have one or not) you can just read the bible just for the sake of reading it. You don't have to walk away believing in it. I know myself I have so many questions about the things I have read in the bible although I have never once read the entire thing back to back. A lot of it is either too hard to understand ,I take it the wrong way or I just don't agree with it. Either way I wish I had somebody to help answer my questions about the bible.
