This is my thread

lol the dude looks like he's in First Class - how bad could it be? ;)

It's very hot in parts of America right now, and one school district here is switching to online classes because schools can't afford air conditioning.

ftp I really haven't seen the local police, I hear them at night but I never see marked cars when I'm out. Less highway patrols too.

Do you really believe this?

lol it might be confirmation bias and I was not aware of these alleged reduction in patrolling but now that it's mentioned, I have seen fewer and fewer cops chilling on my local highways, especially a long straightaway stretch where cops were either waiting to catch someone speeding or sitting in the lots in multiple squad cars just chatting with each other.

I'm not suspecting that there's fewer officers patrolling the area but I think they're roaming much less and just sitting in one spot and not moving as much. Like gators in the water. Our security cameras would catch a few cops patrolling late at night with spotlights on and just looking around at about 2 AM. I haven't seen any in about a month or so.

This reminds of the time right as COVID started in April of 2020 and I was told by another cop (after we were burgled lol) that cops would not be pulling people over for speeding unless it was something stupid like 20 over or something. He told me this because my wallet was bummed and I had to wait for a new license and the DMVs were shut for COVID too. So I went a few months without a physical license.

Maybe that's what's happening now.

Lmfao.

In the northern parts of Norway, driving snow scooters is a popular recreational activity. But to protect the wildlife, driving outside of dedicated scooter tracks is illegal. So during winter time, police will some times fly around in helicopters looking for people driving snow scooters outside the tracks and busting them. It's not quite ski police, but it's still a quirky thing.

I've never seen an i3 police car in the UK. Usually 5 series or X5s.

Not that I think a reduction of police patrols makes any difference to the crime statistics. Your view on guns and now your complaints about the reduction of police patrols makes me think you're living in fear. That's an unhealthy way to be.

That's an unhealthy way to be.

Do you check both side of the road before crossing? Is it scary? I'm not complaining - I'm being realistic about budget cuts and system corruption.

I don't live life pretending that the government institutions are heroes. Who are you going to call? The Ghostbusters?

The irony I failed to point out is that these pigs were everywhere before, but with the recent spike in crime and people getting robbed around here - the pigs are nowhere to be seen. Worthless - defund theses fucks.

I'm not sure looking both ways is the right analogy. Because cars do come down the road, and often. A better analogy would be 'Do I look both ways for cars when walking to my bathroom?'. Because what you're scared off, is not likely to happen

Any of you guys have a home water filtration system? Turns out our city water is still deemed "safe" but has a ton of other shit in there. Lots of folks in our area have those under-the-sink systems for drinking and cooking. On top of that, we have some real hard water, so mineral deposits everywhere. I even got someone to come by and test the water and it's pretty high up there on the water-hardness scale.

So now I'm thinking about at least getting a water softener and maybe looking at the carbon filter stuff they put under your sink.

Yep. I have a filter

But, and I haven't checked, I'd imagine our tap water standards exceed those in the US

Probably. There are so many agencies with their own reports. The EPA, the CDC, and then some weird one that both filter companies provided from EWG which has its list of criticisms. Nothing reliable.

Might just do both the softener and the filter, then. Can't hurt. Everyone else is doing it.

Turns out one of the more dangerous things in the water are PFAs which aren't talked about too much yet: https://www.consumerreports.org/water-quality/how-safe-is-our-drinking-water-a0101771201/

We tried a couple of samples of our tap water run through a softener and it felt so much different. Almost oily. But we were told that the dry feeling from using hard water is because of the trace amount of deposits in the water which make them hard to begin with.

I wonder if it's a sale's pitch or really true. Probably not worth saving a few bucks and not getting the filter on top of that

Hard watr sucks. Where i lived in Australia, the water had bulk calcium. I used to get build ups on my front two bottom teeth and the dentisit was convinced i didn't brush and floss enough. Since moving to NZ I've never had this problem.

Dude, I get those calculi too after a few months despite brushing properly with an electric toothbrush and everything. I gotta use a dental pick myself and scrape that shit out. Didn't think it was because of the water I drank and more from just natural collection over time that just got taken care of when I went to the dentist.

Well, that SCOTUS leak was indeed true and they reversed Roe v Wade. I read that even Trump said that doing so was going to hurt the party. But....he put the ones on the court that ruled in favor of repealing it?

My state has vowed to be an "abortion destination" for the millions of American women seeking The Abortion. :p

"Forever chemicals" in my water but people rage or rave about dead babies. Seems orchestrated to me.

They say they're coming after gay marriage next.

I don't really understand how Americans think they have the best country in the world, when the rest of us think it's a shower of shit. Sticking to Imperial is retarded enough, but with your gun laws and views on equality.... Can you really not see it?!?!?

I have a handful of American friends who see America differently after spending a few years in the UK. It's a great British pastime to bad mouth our own country, but it seems it's not as bad as we think

America lacks strong culture :( I think that's why there's an identity crisis from top to bottom.

I can really see it!! It's difficult to talk about it with other Americans, especially the older ones because it can be soul crushing to escape/exit the Matrix.

We still have good things in America but those things haven't been around long - if America is a person, it's still a child. :p
