According to Los Angeles-based radio station KROQ, holographic technology will bring the star back from the dead to join in on a rendition of “California Love.” Not to be outdone, a holographic version of Nate Dogg — who died in 2011 from multiple strokes — will also be on hand to perform with his former collaborators.

Still to be known: How good will this hologram be? What footage are they using to activate the hologram? The next level of music concerts? Interesting story though.

Bonus content: Tyson talking about Pac never gets old.

Might be the reason his Detox LP is late, apparently Dre was responsible for the idea. :D

"We worked with Dr. Dre on this and it was Dre's vision to bring this back to life," said Nick Smith, president of AV Concepts, the San Diego company that projected and staged the hologram. "It was his idea from the very beginning and we worked with him and his camp to utilize the technology to make it come to life."

It got a lot of publicity for Pac. Even his LP releases don't get this much attention.

Twitter account for Hologram Tupac.

Apparently they plan on making a tour with the 2pac hologram. I dunno if I'm down with that though.

^I'm for it.

Mostly because I think Pac's popularity is fading rapidly. If the tour kicks off along with Hologram, its probably is the best publicity he could ever get considering how things have been. I've read some of the YouTube comments, and there are people asking who 2pac is, and what songs were performed in that video. Even though Dre already has Afeni's blessing, its unlikely the tour plan will go ahead. Chances are not even at 5% yet.

Gotta admit, seeing Hologram throwing up the W while doing the c-walk is quite funny. Anyway, Hologram performs soooooooo much better than 2pac.

Sometimes I love technology..

If they toured it.. depending on who was behind it and profiting from it... I would go.. Curiosity and would be cool as shit to see that live. Would be a strange feeling, cheering for a hologram? hmmmm... lol

my position is this:

yes, I'd go see it although I think it's lame. I would also go to a show put on by a DJ who chose to play only Tupac. Like, I'd pay for a "DJ such and such spinning only Tupac all night long! Tickets only $20". I'd pay that and I'd have an awesome fucking time.

Yeah.. is the technology cheap enough that touring with it would be profitable for Dre or whoever involved with it? They would need other featured acts. But who? Snoop, sure. Dre? Maybe. Eminem? Maybe here and there.

But it's nice to see that this hologram generated such interest. 2pac fans were glad, and younger generations got curious and probably started looking him up.

The actual projecting the "hologram" is easy. And has been used for about 100 years. It's the same technology as Disney have used on the ghost ride for the past 25 years. The actual cost is to model 2pac, and to cut and paste his lyrics. I can't imagine it would be that expensive. Cheaper than a Pixar movie.

Yeah. I know this 21-year-old whose favorite rapper is someone named Machine Gun R. Kelly or something, and recently he refuses to stop talking to me about how 2Pac is alive in Cuba and coming back in 2014. It's really annoying. I'm like, no, I promise you, I've done my research on this.

2014 now is it....?

Tupac fans are worse than (extreme) Christians. Rapture, Tupac coming back. What's the difference?

White rappers will always have a following in white America. MGK isn't a bad rapper or anything and his mixtapes were pretty good. But a white kid will always find it easier to relate to a white rapper's music and that's what it is. I too claimed Em as my favorite rapper when I was young. Mac Miller doesn't rap about anything too white-specific nor has he gained stardom by riding on the whole "I'm white and I rapped and no one took me seriously" plight that Eminem rode in on and MGK is riding in on now. I think anyway, from the popular songs he has, Mac Miller that is. But Mac Miller still definitely has more white fans than any other up and coming rapper. Casey Veggies will back me up on this one. You didn't see Jon (white guy from BC, co-founder of Streethop) come out of nowhere and respond to a Kendrick Lamar or J. Cole or Big KRIT post. He responded in the Mac Miller thread and with praise for the dude.
