Technology Android

I saw it today. It really is beautiful - the most stylish tablet there is, beats the Ipad 2. It's really, really thin.

Asus themselves had a Logitech Keyboard hooked up with it, so you don't have to pay huge amounts of cash for the dock just to get the keyboard.
I was whining about original Transformer's display quality but this one is indeed an improvement. I've had about 20 seconds with that device but it appeared to have superior viewing angles. Not super-awesome though. Perhaps Ipad2-kind of good, almost.

Judging by the reviews the battery life is pretty strange - some reviewers say it's poor, some that it's awesome.. makes me wonder. Despite having 4 cores it's still not as responsive as the Ipad 2 though. To me the Google maps comparison is still valid and still it's smoother on the Ipad.
But it shines in games.

ive got my eye on this if there are any good deals about. it will render the portable DVD player idea my dad always goes on about obsolete. should be lighter than a laptop and have great productivity use. im just wondering what android functionality would be like in china.

To create word documents, spreadsheets and to respond to emails. Also note taking in meetings... etc...

Fuck doing any of that on a virtual keyboard.

I have a MacBook. I can do all that with a breeze. If you want to waste money, paypal me some pounds so I can buy cocaine.

My i5 laptop has become somewhat of a workstation. I have it on a titanium riser at eye level, with a wireless keyboard and mouse, full speakers attached, an external secondary monitor and all my audio equipment and external drives. That in mind, I actually dislike moving it around now and only do it out of necessity.

If I were to get a Transformer Prime, that'd become the device I take around with me. It's very tempting.

Yeah I can do those things with my PC and laptop too, but I understand the point of having a tablet these days. It's more portable because they are so thin and lightweight these days that it's basically like holding a display itself. I'm sometimes thinking about getting a tablet but I'm afraid that Android tablets still aren't good enough and that I'd be far more satisfied with a lightweight laptop (like ultrabooks when they get cheaper).
It's just that - tablets aren't satisfying enough if it comes to productivity programs for me and I don't really need "games on the go" on a tablet. I'd use one for presentations but they aren't worth spending 500$ over an old fashioned sheet of paper and a remote just for that.

When there will be more serious apps for tablets and Android tablets will be good enough I might get one. I might go for an Ipad if they get rid of limitations. While I'm not a fan of Apple the Ipad 2 is still a pretty good device and I have high hopes for future tablets from Apple.

Isn't the transformer half the price of a macbook?

Added into that - longer battery life, more portable... etc.

Yeah, at least. I made the assumption that you have a laptop. I have a laptop so I can't justify buying a tablet at this point. I could see how it would be beneficial for note taking in meetings, no doubt.

I can't see it being so much more useful for casual users, though. A lot of us are still in school and a tablet could be handy, but since a lot of us have more recent hardware in our laptops, it's hard to justify buying a laptop replacement as a tablet.

yeah, and I agree with Masta. I feel like android tables are kinda where the G1 and similar handsets used to be. Say what you want, but they weren't up to par with the iPhone. It was only later on when Android truly caught up. I feel like Android tablets aren't there yet. The iPad 2 still shits on the competition and I don't think this new Transformer Prime will make a significant dent in iPad's market share. When I say that, I mean mostly due to the app market.

my thoughts exactly.

The Kindle Fire is certainly making a big dent in the Market share and that's not even running Honeycomb let alone ICS.

How can you say the tablets aren't there yet without having used ICS? What are you basing that on?

Alpha build of CyanogenMod9 (ICS) on a NookColor, I can't wait to put this on mine.
