My initial thought when I read about this, was that that's the direction Google are gonna take it. Synergy between official licensed content on YouTube (not just movies but TV shows and live broadcasts of stuff), and Hangouts. They just added Hangout links to YouTube so that you can start a Hangout to watch anything with just one click from the YouTube page.

Now they're saying it was a fake account. Not buying that excuse, there's something else going on. The account was in the YouTube partners program, which a fake account wouldn't have been able to get into. Also, the New York Times reported it.

Probably some unforeseen legal/rights drama showed up out of nowhere.
