I have never felt this way, and I think that people who do are completely brainwashed into believing that 'brands' are an extension of themselves on a really personal level

It's every company's wet dream to have people consider their brand an extension of their self-image. I think people who do are idiots.

^^ It's kinda hard to breathe in there sometimes. It's driven away a few members already and turned into a circle jerk.

But outside of tech, definitely clothes and cars fall under this as well. People think their Armani suit is what makes them. Or their new $200 shoes.

Weird.

New-anythings always make a person feel good, especially clothes. They make you feel like a new person. But that's different from making those clothes validate you.

I don't flaunt it, do I? Maybe I have; it sounded like you'd been waiting to use that line for some time now.

Naw, it was just a joke.

I've been watching a lot of "The Green Room With Paul Provenza". Great show. It's awesome to see very funny, well-established comics making fun of each other and no one getting getting offended and being retaliatory.

Do I look like a well-established comic to you, bitch?

I was looking for places to stay in OH this winter and someone had emailed me about an apartment that was damn cheap. Something like $350 a month and a $75 deposit towards electricity and then water and all I pay. She emailed me saying the neighborhood was great and I shit you not

"great neighbors (no blacks AT ALL!).."

My kinda realtor. Hospital said to avoid that realty but I dunno anymore. Might like it. I figured OH was full of rednecks, I'd fit right in. Just be brown.

Let me put my racist cap on for a second...

between ghetto blacks and rednecks, it's ghetto blacks all the way.

Can't find shit on a town named Oakwood. Except that it's all white.

Gotta share my neighborhood with a buncha damn saltines.

Quit derailing this thread, you tar-babies.

I usually spend a ton of money on clothes. I like to buy the best of everything. Best doesn't equal most expensive. But I usually buy Prada shoes, and no others. They are my brand. I don't defend them, but I do love them.

But... I don't flaunt it. If an item of clothing is branded (Has the brand written anywhere but the label) I won't wear it.

^or their Bimmer.

oh shit, shit just got real.

Great cars. Good engineering. Can't knock it.

If it was a cadillac, now that's different. Poorly built cars by a country not known for it's skill in Engineering. But... I don't knock that either. Americans and their loyalty to American brands is something to be admired.

Back when he was at Uni, one of my cousins in the US was a big time weed dealer in his city and neighbouring areas. I lived with him for a few months and we'd go on all kinds of runs. Lots of time spent in various hoods over there. Never had a single problem. Didn't seem all that different to where I live in the UK.

But a few times we went out to these redneck small towns, like, the logging towns and shit. And lemme tell ya, the rednecks are scary as fuck. Maybe all the hunting rifles and Confederate flags added to the equation.

But I concur with SOFI's post.
