Terrorist attack Norway (over 90 people killed)

Yesterday a carbomb was brought to blast right outside the Prime Minster's office killing at least 7 people and injuring the PM. The news coverage around that time suggested that Al Qaida was attacking Norway for its involvement in Afghanistan and the prosecution of some muslim guy with beard in Norway etc. etc.

Two hours after the blast, the same guy responsible for the carbomb dressed up as five-o opened fire at a summercamp slaughtering over 80 kids. Summercamp was held on an island leaving the kids with nowhere to run. Thats that.

Around the time this sick fuck got arrested media claimed that the shooter was a Norway native recently converted to islam.

Now, 24 hours after the blast and the shooting we now get to learn that the shooter was as anti-islamic as the average forummember here. To me its kinda sick how the media played the muslimcard not knowing jack about this terrorists motives.

You dont need to. My thread is not just about the attack. I'd rather see this thread being used to the discuss the media's involvements in this all. How misleading propaganda about muslims has led to this terrorist attack, and how this attack ironicly enough has also been used for the same bullshit hate spreading about muslims

I am so with you on the muslim card. I called it, I know I did. The moment someone in my immediate surroundings started talking about Islam I've been advocating that it's a matter of right wing extremism.

A few months back we had an incident where someone who had access to police data systems managed to extract around 80 mugshots of Norwegian youth. They were posted on a some extremist forum saying they were snitches who had put "our brothers" in jail. So the reaction was a threat that someone would come to Norway and deal with these kids. Nothing came of it, but during those events I remember the PST (our Internal Affairs / CIA) saying they had observed an escalation in right-wing extremist-related episodes of gang violence. It was viewed as a "new" threat to our society.

The shooter was a conservative Christian, Norwegian citizen, had been a part of a right-wing political party, and was a member of an islamistic forum where, from what I can gather, he argued against a multi-cultural society.

I think he was just saying more along the lines of how media always relates a terrorist attack to Muslims and it's the first thing that comes to mind when such a tragedy happens.

This time it wasn't.

In England we don't instantly blame Muslims. We blame The Irish and then Muslims. We have had 1 terrorist attack on us claimed by Muslims, and 100's claimed by the IRA and various branches.

I agree with media influence. The hyperbole around Al-Qaedia is far greater than when we were getting bombed on a weekly basis.

The justice system we have is a bit laughable. We're a small and young nation, so certain things never happened here, and thus there has never been a law for or against it. For example, you can plan a terrorist attack and not break the law, and the police will have nothing they can do about it - so long as you only plan it, and alone. The second you conspire with someone else or buy an illegal substance to make a bomb, they can get to you. But they will not get a search warrant on the basis that you are planning a terrorist attack. Lol.

Pre-2001. When the Americans decided that bombs in your cities weren't very nice. They got emphatic, support for the bombings stopped. Politics started taking precedent. Gerry and Martin decided to take the seats they refused and it all got very merry. Only the thugs still remain, and they usually target young Protestant coppers in NI. If it was up to me I'd give NI to the financially weak Eire. Everyone for themselves. Fuck the Loyalists. Survive or die.

Your recidivism rate and incarceration rate is much lower. I never agreed with the US prison system. You're not meant to survive.
