The layout of your shortcuts would drive me mad. I hate any shortcuts. But they at least have to be in rows.

What kind of linux did you have? And it was probably a stripped down version aimed at netbooks, which is a whole different bag. Ubuntu 10.10 desktop edition is an incredible OS...it has come along leaps and bounds even in just the past 6 months since 10.04 when I first started using it.

Ubuntu have a netbook version too right?

Yeah. Ubuntu Netbook Remix. It has a different UI geared towards smaller screens.

I don't know what else is different about it, but you can install the desktop edition of Ubuntu on a netbook also. My friend might be getting a netbook soon, if he does I'll put Ubuntu Netbook on there for him. All the netbooks I've seen come with Windows 7 Basic which is just garbage. You can't even change the background on it lol.
