A shopping centre in China's Hebei province has built a car park with wider spaces that it says is designed especially to suit women drivers.

The women-only car park in Shijiazhuang city is also painted in pink and light purple to appeal to female tastes.



Official Wang Zheng told AFP news agency the car park was meant to cater to women's "strong sense of colour and different sense of distance".



The parking bays are one metre (3ft) wider than normal spaces, he said.
The Wanxiang-Tiancheng shopping centre had also "installed signs and security monitoring equipment that corresponded more to women's needs", he said.



The Global Times website says female parking attendants have been trained to help guide women drivers into their parking spaces. The bays also have extra lighting.



Driving in China is a dangerous activity, with more than 200 deaths in road accidents each day last year, AFP reports, citing police statistics.

I love women with all my heart, they are amazing, but when it comes to driving my car... You sit in the damn passenger seat.

Interesting fact; last year I was driving to work in the morning, and there was traffic on a road there usually isn't. So, I end up noticing 20 mins later that there's a car swerving back and forth on 2 lanes. I'm thinking: "Great, it's 7am and someone is driving drunk on the road..." Eventually I get by the person, I notice it's a fucking woman working on A LAPTOP while talking on her CELL and driving. I shit you not, as crazy as it must sound.

I should have driven the bitch off the road and done humanity a favour.

They do something offensive but paint it bright pretty colors and hope the girls don't realize it.

I can't imagine driving through China... Chinatown here is only about a 5-8 minute drive long.. but it takes me some pretty slick maneuvering and 25 minutes later to get safely in and out of Chinatown. Sometimes.. I park in another neighborhood and take the train in.

It's a big deal because it only takes one second of distraction to destroy lives. (yes, I'm a hypocrite. I smoke in the car and fuck with my navigation)

The difference between the two sides you mentioned is the technology. S O F I mentioned earlier - sometimes some people have troubles dealing with new technology. People think that talking on the phone isn't a distraction because they're so used to walking around with their goofy blutooth headsets, ignoring their surroundings. We've had make-ups and children for a while now so we're just hoping that people have enough common sense. You can still get pulled over and ticketed for other things. I remember hearing about police in Ohio charging a woman with child endangerment when they spotted her breast feeding her child while driving.
