I think Sebastian Deisler was on the verge of it at one point. He was suffering from severe depression.

As far as the public knows, he was never close to committing suicide. In his case it was a depression that was caused by the huge pressure that was on him and the expectation of him saving german football. Plus, he had to deal with a lot of injuries. So ended up retiring from football.

He recently released a book where he explains that hes still not back to normal life.

Nothing. Literally.

I just read an interview and he moved back from Berlin to his small hometown. Hes living his life without any plans. He says he visits his mother, his father,....thats it.

No wait, he says maybe he wants to start a training camp for little kids. But if thats gonna happen, im not sure.

As a basketball fan (i'm assuming you are one), do you know of any players that comitted suicide while actively playing?

I think the last recorded suicide of an NBA player was Rick Berry. I don't know what year it was but, he played for the Sacramento Kings. The only reason I knew about it was because of a team tribute to him. He blew his brains out.

There is another player called Eddie Griffin who's death was listed as resulting from a car crash. This was in 2007. From the report, he 'ignored' a railroad crossing sign and drove his car in front of a train after a an alcohol binge.

Not related to suicide but I think one of the most tragic stories happened in 1986. A highly rated prospect called Len Bias died after a drug overdose of cocaine. Everyone said this kid (22yrs) had a bright future. 48 hrs after being picked by the Celtics he was dead.

I meant the ball player! I had no idea, I was really wondering where he ended up. I know he was about to sign for some Euroleague team... I loved that kid when he was with the Rockets when they had Mobley, Francis, Griffin, Kenny Thomas and Moochie Norris.

Griffin was a good player, amazing blocker as well. He indeed intended to go play in Europe at some point.

Mexican international Antonio De Nigris died suddenly yesterday from a heart attack at the age of 31.
