Help.

What kind of error is that?

If everything has been backed up maybe you should just format your hard drive? It's good to do that from time to time anyway.

i did a hard drive test from the bios. i got error #1-07 fail. apparently as i was told by the agent from HP support it means my hard drive has gone bad and i need to get it replaced.

but she also confirmed to me that the vista update fucked up my computer but that if my hard drive was fucked, i was bound to lose all my data and to get it replaced anyway, that it was a matter of time.

Here's a thread about that error:

Business support forums - notebook HDD problems TEst status #1-07 FAIL

It seems to be a HDD error that could be caused by various things.

checked it. i had to replace my hard drive. my computer didn't boot at ALL anymore leaving me with a black screen with a white underscore top left corner.. and sent me error messages everytime i tried to format my hard drive.

sent it today to get the new hard drive fixed. at the same time updated from 320 to 500 gb as my hard drive was almost full before it went bad. i have no choice. i need it before i start school next week.

I like how when anyone else posts a thread in a section where it doesn't belong it'll get moved but when Carmi does it, it stays in the wrong section.

im sure carmi was just prioritising knowing that a thread in our block would get more views and replies in the quickest time etc. what's more is that she has an urgent problem that needs to be addressed, maybe carmi likes it in the wrong section, who knows

i just needed help asap and most members do not visit the tech subforum of sh. sorry if this offended you.

btw quick update, hard drive was replaced as it had gone wrong. but now the part 1/3 if my recovery cds is still not working, i think it's cause it is scratched. and my bf'w computer dvd burner doesn't seem to work so can burn windows 7 to put it on my laptop. fucking gay. will have to wait til tomorrow to ask a friend to lend me his windows 7 rc boot cd. i refuse to pay $40 for hp recovery cds when in about a month i could get windows 7. obviously windows 7 is pricey but anything to get rid of vista which crashed on me 3 times in a year and a half.

your laptop is newer than mine carmi, and mine has only just passed its warranty, and i have vista too

first thing i did was make recovery cd's

i bought the laptop with recovery cds. but the 1st one out of the 3 gives me an error message at 2%. and it's slightly scratched. fucking bullshit i tell u. then i call hp and all they tell me is to buy theirs off their website. fuck them.

my hard drive is playing up too carmi, i just hang with it when its not working, my cpu memory is full up otherwise

3 times in a year?? thats very frequent.

i too would like to upgrade to windows 7, but the fact that you have to do a clean install instad of booting from the start-up deters me from upgrading.

yeah well i dunno it was either vista updates, a program that jammed my system or whatnot.

hold on, what do you mean not just boot up cd? what's the diff between that and clean install?

i dont think with windows 7 you can overwrite the vista OS. i think you have to formatt the hard-drive or something along the lines of that.

i read that on afterdawn a while ago, the article saying its a different installation method. but that may have changed now. masta may know more about this.

It's always better to format your hdd but I think that you can also install Windows 7 over Vista. You can also have both and choose which one to boot on startup.

clean install it is then. i better check out that site masta said to google.

maybe with the slightest chance i might get some free software - very much doubt it though. well, you never know until you try.

^^that is very odd indeed. i posted my last post AFTER carmi though it comes before her post. check the dates.

edit: now look below. this is still above carmi's post. (i thought this would appear below hers)

my computer has no os right now. cant even use it god damn it cause my recovery cd isn't working. so clean install for me or not is not even a choice.
