Does anyone actually believe we share the same characteristics as our zodiacs? Is a relationship doomed if you are the opposite zodiac? I'm skeptical about shit like this, but it's hard to ignore the coincidences.

I'm a Cusp (June 20th, so that's between Gemini and Cancer), but I tend to be very similar to what characteristics are given to Geminis, I tend to believe there is some truth to it.

Yeah, I'm the same way (July 21) except between Cancer and Leo. Ninety percent of my characteristics seem to come from Cancer though.

OK, let's do a little test. I'll post up last week's horoscopes, without telling you which is which. Those of you who believe astrology (Flipmo, Tekneek, Rahim) can try to identify your own.

It's been ages since you could think about just how different things are now and how far you have come. Stop and smell the roses, appreciate the good stuff!

I don't follow the readings for how my day, week, year, etc will be. But the basic description of the libra seems to fit me perfectly. It's pretty odd.

^ Trish, how many percent of Libras do you think is similar to you? 75? 50? 35? - The point is everyone is different and you can't give yourself 5 lines of description. It's odd because when things like this are right - it sticks out and leaves an impression. When it's dead wrong - you forget about until you're impressed again.

I've no idea how many are similar to me. I only know one other one. It wasn't five lines, it was more like 3 pages of stuff. Amara had posted a link to something once and it was just dead on, surely it could be a coincidence, but I don't pay enough attention to the zodiac to care much. *shrugs shoulders*

Keep in mind that when you read things that you briefly relate to, the human brain has a tendency to make what you read fit with your self. No matter how dead on it is, it's impossible to predict the behavior of a person based on how planets move in the universe and what their positioning are. I believe in quantum physics and interrelatedness, but at the same time, I can still say I'm very skeptic towards this. People think they see ghosts, they think a horoscope described their personality, they think a lot of things, but it's a common human desire to find a place in the world, it's a common desire to define oneself, and it's a common desire to be part of something bigger. All these things bias you.

I, too, have read a bunch of horoscopes that I felt fit me perfectly. Maybe the fact is that we humans aren't snowflakes. We are not all unique. Humans have constants and variables. The variables include the different experiences different people have had. The constants include the way a person instinctively reacts in a set situation. The variables of a human mind will vary a lot from person to person, but the constants remain the same in every human being. If i'm mean to you, you feel offended. If I'm mean to someone else who has a completely different way of thinking about their life and the world, they still feel offended. The way you feel offended differs, but there is a constant there. We're not so special as we like to think, in some ways.

Derren Brown did a piece on horoscopes. He got a bunch of people together, wrote a couple of pages for each of them describing their personality. They all agreed that the description he wrote was accurate, some were really shocked by how much he knew about them.

Of course, it turns out the descriptions were all identical. He'd written them beforehand and made sure they were ambiguous enough to apply to absolutely anyone, and anyone who was looking to find similarities to their own personality in there would be able to interpret it to fit. That's exactly how horoscopes work.

I think our zodiacs offer us something to identify ourselves with. Instead of being identified to what we have in society - our jobs, possessions, family etc - the zodiac connects us directly to the universe, through time.

Our time of birth is very significant to every individual, as it marks our entry into this world. And like the Indians - who would name a new-born by something that stood-out at the time of the birth ('Hunting-Tiger', for example), the child called Hunting-Tiger would always have something to relate to in later life, and probably go on to develop characteristics to that of a hunting tiger. This is how I view the how we relate to our sign of the zodiac.

As for zodiac sign compatability, this has to be something subconcious/subliminal to the invidual imho.
