Who else hates it when artists use the year in the lyrical content of their songs? (I'm not talking about ad-libs in the intro, etc, but in the body of the song.)
I think it basically just dates the song and, even like a year later, when you rap to it (or just listen to it), it sounds stupid.
examples: "now it's 95"...""the 94 version of the mack"..."97 bonnie and clyde, me and my daughter"
also, in song titles, like the above mentioned "97 Bonnie and Clyde", "03 Bonnie and Clyde", "Victory 2004", "Escobar 97". once again, it dates them and, if i choose to put them on a mix, it looks odd.
finally, saying how long you've been around ("been doing this for 20 years"..."10 years makin' rap tunes"..."who ruled for 15 years and dropped bombs?") and your age. makes it hard to really revisit that song, especially in concert.
there's one big exception to this: including a SET date in your lyrics, such as "june 16th, 1971/mama gave birth to a hell-raising heavenly son". sure, if the listener does the math, they can figure out an age or time break between then and now, but the date itself never changes, and the lyrical content remains the same.
who else does this bother?
