Technology Yahoo messenger wont connect

im on cable modem... and when i dled yahoo messenger and started it the 1st time it signed on

but ever since... it wont sign on.. and when i go too .. start/yahoo messenger... it wont even pop up

i have to right click it and select "run" instead of open

and once i select run... it ask me which user do i want to connect as (meaning windows)... once i pass that the messenger will pop up with th ebasic name/password... i type the correct thing in anothe rpop up comes up and says

"yahoo messenger cannot connect"

"modem users ... try again (button)"

Lan/firewall users

options are "setup proxy"

wtf do i do?

2. Click on Preferences, then click on the Connection tab.
3. Click on No network detection, then hit the OK button at the bottom.
4. Messenger will ask you if you want to try to log on with your new proxy settings. Click the Yes button.
5. When prompted, enter your ID and password, then hit the Login button.

If that doesn't work, follow these steps:

1. Open the Login menu in Messenger.
2. Click on Preferences, then click on the Connection tab.
3. Click on Firewall with no proxies, then hit the OK button at the bottom.
4. Messenger will ask you if you want to try to log on with your new proxy settings. Click the Yes button.
5. When prompted, enter your ID and password, then hit the Login button.
