Technology Xbox dvd drive

Ok, my favorite video game ever, "Shenmue 2" on the Xbox, got stolen from my house. :fury: :fury:

So I bought another one off ebay, and the disc doesnt work. It's a perfectly legitimate version, it aint scratched or dirty, and the DVD that comes with it works fine.

I've read stories about the xbox drive crapping out after a while, and there's new ones you can get off ebay pretty cheaply. Should I get a new one? I may try getting a lens cleaner first, although Im not sure that would be the problem as most of my DVDs and other xbox games work fine.

your house get robbed or something??? they took the game and not the xbox?? wow...

and it could be the cd....it might be a little more work, but worth it to see what the problem maybe....try renting another copy of shenmue....if that works, then i dunno, switch the discs.....you get your box modded, you could burn it??? my dvd drive's working now, so im going crazy with games....let me know if you decide to get it done, and i'll PM you a site

for one game? if you do buy a new xbox, make sure you check the drive....there's a site that has pics of the three different drives taht M$ used on the xbox, and there's one that never has problems...prolly the newer one...so if you do buy another, get one used...that's what i did....gamestop has crazy warranties...90 days, no questions asked

Yeah, I had to stop inviting people who I thought were friends over to my house, as I noticed a few games, DVD's and CD's have gone missing. :fury:

I don't know anywhere where I would be able to rent Shenmue 2, it's not exactly the easiest game to find. My xbox ain't modded either. I'm going to buy a lens cleaner, and see if it works then. If not, then I will sell this copy of the game on ebay and buy another one.

Then if that doesn't work I'll have to get a new drive.

you live in england right??? i think every country got shenmue 2 for dreamcast except the US.....i could be wrong though...but i think i remember being kinda pissed about that...that is, if you have a DC

/\ I have Shenmue 2 on Dreamcast as well. If i desperately get the urge to play it, then i'll get my DC out the box and play it. But the DC version of Shenmue 2 is Japanese Audio with English subtitles. Still cool, though.

I just tried to play a Prince DVD that I watched on the same xbox a couple of months ago, and it's not playing that now either. So either the lens is fucked or I need a new CD drive. Now i know its definately not the Shenmue disc.

hmm, well you could try ebay, like you said you were gonna......before you do anything though, i suggest this one site...it's called xbox-scene....but im not sure completely of the URL...google it "xbox scene"....they generally have solutions to that kinda stuff...if they dont have it in an FAQ, try just contacting the people there....they should be able to help you...maybe offer a solution, or give you the new drive....

cheaper and easier to get a brand new xbox than to replace the lens. Sell your current xbox,pay a little more cash and get a new one

Damn. I bought a DC because of Shenmue. I may end up buying an Xbox so I can play Shenmue 2.

actually, he's right...its much cheaper to go buy a new one....if you do, then still, get that one modded....you can do alotta stuff on it....play dvds without a control, emulators...alotta extra stuff, really, but its worth it...oh and there's no such thing as PAL and NTSC....it plays em both....so its some good stuff...
