WWE cuts Hardy, Rhyno, Holly

It happens every year -- the WWE follows up WrestleMania weekend by handing out pink slips right away, then a second wave comes after it sees the Mania revenue numbers.

This time around, big names were not spared in the first wave as Matt Hardy, Rhyno and Molly Holly were released.

The bad news is that three superstars with decent crowd reactions were let go. The good news is it looks as if the WWE is committing to some younger talent. Last week on SmackDown, MNM -- Johnny Nitro and Joey Mercury (Joey Matthews), managed by Melina -- debuted, challenging Rey Mysterio for a shot at the WWE tag team championship.

Word is that more cuts will come, but the loss of Holly could be one the WWE will regret. The women's division has been gaining traction, and arguably the most talented female wrestler has been let go.

HEARD AROUND THE RING: Randy Orton will be out for six months after shoulder surgery and will join the SmackDown roster when he returns. He could be used on TV in a non-wrestling role much sooner. ... HHH suffered a minor neck injury on Monday, but should be OK. ... WWE soon will announce another Diva Search competition.

I liked all three of those (I had a thing for Molly, so sue me) so I'm disappointed to see them go, but I'm glad WWE are calling up Joey Matthews. Thing is, he would have worked well with Hardy if they'd brought him back to Smackdown. IIRC, they worked together back in the OMEGA days.

Are you kidding? Matt Hardy Version 1 was better than anything the Hardy Boyz ever did. Matt carried Jeff throughout their career, the only good match that Jeff had on his own in WWE was his Undisputed Title match against The Undertaker on RAW a few years back.
