I don't see how you can say the word is "misinterpreted" when you're using a rapper's definition. If you call yourself a "thug" then you're associating yourself with thieves and murderers.

Claiming that it means "someone who's had a hard life" or "an underdog" is misinterpretation.

Well, In ways I agree, but you become a thug normally under the circumstances of having a hard life. If you are living out of the projects without poverty and a good education, then its unlikely you will be a thug.

This has to be one of the dumbest things i have ever read on here. Commiting crimes is the easy way out. Any random dumb shit can go rob someone, or something, somewhere. It's about will power, if you dont have it, and you let criminals influrence your choices then you are just giving into the easy way out.

i don't know about the uk, but in america the projects are by and large populated by minorities. at best there's an 80/20 ratio.

either things are much different in the uk, or you've been listening to to much crappy music and believe the hype, the projects aren't some huge thug cultivating machine. in fact, people there are usually good people trying to make it by. if you want to let a few people with personality disorders define all of them, well that's not very accurate.

when you said that the projects and low access to education are a breeding ground for thugs, that is a racist statement to those who know the truths about access to fair housing and education.

i swear, a lot of people need to hit stop on their favorite gangsta rap album and understand that the ghetto and more specifically the pj's aren't what is spoon fed to you by the characters portrayed in it.

its all bullshit,because in essence both sides of the coin are right & i think that's the point. the definition of thug has been used for so long and was contributed far back to diferent things in history, but its still known. the other side is like tupac fought for the ones misjudged as thugs by that same definition. etc

Cool. That makes more sense to me know...and i feel ya man. Really like your last sentence too. Because when ur on the net, u only read the words and you interpret them in your own way. When you are talking to someone face to face it is easier to understand what the person is really trying to say because you can listen to the tone in their voice and their mannerisms..etc etc.

i lived in georgia man, ive seen plenty of projects, and there are plenty of white people in projects, and there are plenty of white thugs in the projects too. I saw gun fights every 4-5 days when I lived in hinesville, when i moved away to florida, i never saw 1 gun fight in 3 months.

i kind of expected you to bring up appalachia. in that region there are indeed more caucasian residents by percent than in the west and south, but they are still outnumbered drastically by minorities. the simple fact is that due to the economic disparity between white and minority people who are below the poverty line, by percent there are greater numbers of minorities living in subsidized housing. facts don't lie.

people who label nations as racist are short sighted and do not have a full grasp of the picture. you may want to study up on american history before making such sweeping statements and achieve an understanding of just how and why things are the way they are today. there's no guesswork involved.
