Members of the Wu Tang Clan’s entourage got into a little altercation with security staff near the end of VH1’s third annual Hip Hop Honors, which was taped Saturday night at New York’s Hammerstein Ballroom.

The violence erupted after one of the group's posse was spotted without a proper backstage pass, reports the New York Daily News. During the exchange, one person was slapped, and a several others were tossed from the premises, but no serious injuries were reported.

Meanwhile, the Wu Tang Clan received musical tributes from some of today’s hottest artist during the ceremony, as did fellow honorees the Beastie Boys, Ice Cube, Rakim, MC Lyte, Eazy-E and Def Jam Records co-founder Russell Simmons.

"These are the guys that I listened to as a kid," said rapper Fat Joe, according to the Daily News. "Today is the most fun time out of the whole year."

Marking her first performance since being released from prison, Lil’ Kim handled the musical salute to MC Lyte, whom many consider hip hop’s first noteworthy female rapper.

Another highlight of the evening was the Beastie Boys jumping on stage to perform their classic hit, "So What’cha Want."

VH1 will air Hip Hop Honors on Oct. 17.
