there is no treatment. the only thing they can get as a treatment would be therapy. even then, not sure it would work.

Maybe not, but at least then these people come forward and can be better monitored and child abuse can be better prevented; which is all I really care about.

You punish these people, the child has still been hurt! I hope that we can help save these kids before it happens. And then if it still does, like I said, *shhhnip* *plop plop*.

the governments wouldnt pay to get those pedophiles monitored. you have to set how you'll monitor those pedophiles, to define what monitoring is. there is no way child abuse can be prevented. child abuse always existed and always will. i could on and on about this (did a 26 page long paper about this 2 weeks ago) but nah.

the only prevention method there can be is informing people. but technically there is no treatment per say.

Mutual support, like the AA buddy system, will do a lot for these people, where they can call someone and talk about being tempted, and hopefully be talked out of it by a supportive ear.

It is better then just shaming these people into hiding where they act out their crimes in hiding.

Yeah but killers have already commited a crime. I'm talking strictly on the people that are sexually attracted but have never touched a child. BIG difference between a pedophile and a child molestor.

You're all arguing like effective treatment for pedophilia exists. (LOL?)

I don't think there's a cure (since it's not a disease) but what I mean is when these people feel like they can no longer control their urges they have someone to go to that could possibly help them through it. It's about preventing child molestation.

like keco said, its all about self control. i could be atrracted like crazy to the guy next to me yet i wouldn't jump on him. same with pedophiles.

There's a difference though. You're just controlling your urges for the time being, you get to exercise those urges later in life. These people have to control themselves for their entire life. No sex cause your boyfriend is out of town for 3 months isn't the same as never getting to have sex with your object of desire.

I d.k. what I said to make you think that. I'm never going to say it's acceptable behavior. I'm never going to say it's ok for them to do what they do. Just because I don't have acceptance doesn't mean I don't think they should seek treatment or have treatment available to them.
I have heard of pedophiles being castrated. Their choice...and that's the only thing that helped them not have urges.

I'm never going to tell a crackhead it's ok for him to smoke crack but if he wants to get help and seek treatment I would support that 100%. The thing is...9/10 ppl are probably not going to seek treatment unless they are forced. Why do crackheads get treatment? Because they're caught doing it. Why would pedophiles be forced to get help...because they're caught...and when they are caught...they need to have the same time in jail as other violent offenders...or AT LEAST drug dealers.

That was the point of the thread to me. If you molest a child you need more time in jail than a few months.
