WTF Euros need a license to have a TV

lmao @ this turning into a america vs. europe thread...


In Holland you don't need a license to watch tv (unless im missing something) but you have to pay a fee for tv and radio, yeah. It's used to fund the public channels.

seriously, i'd rather pay this fee and not get commercials.

that said, i hardly ever watch the channels you need a license for. mostly news and shit. we got cable though and you gotta pay for that so. lol.
 
It helps pay for public broadcasting, which eventually dish out some actual quality. Unlike fucking PBS that make a 'begging-a-ton' to make viewers dish out some cash to keep their 'cooking with Julia Childs' show on the air. I can't believe that some of you didn't know about that...

Maybe it seemed like more 'cause all the ads were shit. They were all either trying to sell you some kind of brand new medication, or trying to get you to sue someone because the brand new medication they sold you last week has fatal side effects.

ive known about the fee for the tv for sometime. its odd to us because we just arent used to it. it's not really a surprise that most americans dont know about it. im sure there are plenty of things people from europe dont know about fees and taxes in america

The point of a license is to show that you have the required skill to do whatever with what the said license is. For example: fishing, driving, boating, all the medical fields, etc. So apparently in Europe you need a license to prove you know how to use a television set. pet licenses? wtf? never heard of that one. maybe it depends on the type of pet. if you were going to have something exotic like a monkey then yeah i think you do. but i dont have one on my dog and my parents dont have any for their cats

It's not pathetic because it funds one of the largest corporations that provides TV, Radio, loadsa shit for free.

Which I then work for and take the money back. Haha.

as far as i know, "America" refers to one very large continent, while U.S.A. is one country in America :)

The point is that the BBC (in this case) isn't dependent on any big corporate sponsors telling them what and what not to do. :)
