World Cup 2006 Predictions

Who do you think will win the world cup, and why?

I'm an English man who has lived in Australia for 6 years, and Australia qualified for the world cup for the first time in decades (they previously qualified and then got knocked out by Iran many years ago). The hype out here for their team is incredible, but looking at the group selections I don't think they stand a chance of making it through to the quarter finals... Australia is known to pull something special out of the bag though.

As for England... we are the sort of team who under performs far too much, but could be a winning team if we get our shit together and gel as a team.

So what about the others? The other typical favourites are Germany, Brazil, France, Sweden to name a select few, plus many other European countries.

I've gotta say i fancy either Brazil or England, they are the two teams most packed with World class players, there's no-one else that really stands out to me.

Even though i said Brazil are overrated i still think they'll win it.

I say Holland will go for and i think Ivory Coast will surprise some people.

Nah Australia didn't qualify for the 1998 World Cup. They lost to Iran in the qualifying matches.

But in my honest opinion, my money's on Germany pulling a France (France winning on their home ground in 1998). They have the home crowd advantage, they are a powerful team, they came second to Brazil in the 2002 World Cup. I think the home crowd will prove to be the biggest advantage for them, and they'll take it.

Brazil, England or Argentina. One of these three should win it, but the great things about these tournaments is that anything can happen.

Candidates (in no particular order):

Brazil: Always strong. Always. They're in a league of their own.
Argentina: Tough opponents. Always fighters.
Italy: Don't underestimate the Romans. Never.
England: Solid team.
Holland: Great offensive capabilities. Young players, very greedy for a win.
Germany: They disappointed in the qualifications, but the WC is in the Heimat and the Jerries are always very tough opponents and real tournament fighters.



I bet Ivory Coast and the Czechs can surprise people.
